I don't know why that conclusion was reached. If they're an intelligent civilisation, we have much to gain from contacting them.

MAYBE aliens studied earth and thought "Those earthlings are bloody barbarians, I don't think we *want* to make contact with such a blood thirsty bunch".

Q: If aliens studied earth, what would they think of it?

Imagine we whent to another planet, with the type of technology we have today, and the aliens in the planet being visited were in the equivalent of our ..say 2000 BC. ...would contacting them Really be the wisest thing to do? They would probably reguard us as angels, and gods... we wouldnt be equal in status. Thats an undesirable unless we intend on conquering and ruling these people. diplomacy would not work, for this fact. To engage in proper diplomatic relations, both parties must be in somewhat equal footing in reguards to not so much technological advancement, but culturally, as a whole.
why would any "intelligent" aliens want to contact us? lol were destroying our planet along with our habitats, and war is a norm.

"barbarians" is right. Even the self-proclaimed "civilised" world is barbaric. ... if its barbaric to us, imagine what it is to Them.

Hey guys/girls, I'm very interested in Astronomy although that's not what I'm studying. There seem to be quiet alot of people with knowledge here so I have a question;

What does livin on a 4 dimensional world mean? I mean in what ways and what would be different?

How many of you go out of your way to communicate with ants? Do you really think a higher up would waste their time communicating with us if we were so far below them?

Maybe when we reach the level of a dog they will ask us to fetch or roll over, but I wouldnt really want to be an aliens pet and be forced to fetch their smelly slippers every morning would you?

Everything in our world is based on 3 dimensions, in that, that is the only way of movement we are given. We can move left right, forward back, up and down and combinations of those 3 dimensions. A 4th dimension gives us a 4th way to move through the universe, through life, space, through everything. Whether that movement is physical or mental or whatever isnt really known.

Some say moving through time is the 4th dimension, some say its moving through alternate universes, etc etc.

A 4th dimension of movement would just totally blow open our way of thinking and living, from the way you handle your day to day life to the hardest most complex physics.
