Are We Alone?

#21
Damn this thread has really got me thinking... I was outside a second ago and looked up and there were heaps of stars out...immediately I thought - hmm, are we alone?!

Instead of the vastness of this universe, I tend to wonder about parallel universes and the possibility of movement between them. It seems unusual to think though that we have this entire solar system and more importantly, the whole universe, that is only supporting life on one small planet. Really, what is the point of other planets if they dont support some kind of life or substance of use?? aah, 3.00am ramblings.... :(

Are you also an athiest by any chance?

Two Aussie astronomers discovered last year that there is a "galactic habitable zone" in our Milky Way Galaxy and that our sun is relatively young in comparison to the average star in this zone by about a billion years.
Suggesting that other life forms out there would be older then ours, and hense technologically superior.

yo u got an article about that i'd like to read it

no im muslim, man what an insult lol jp and older life forms than us does not neccessarily mean that they are bound to be more intelligent or technologically advanced than us, i dont know how you came to that conclusion, what if these lifefroms were not human-like and were just creatures like the prehistoric animals that once inhabited this planet?

I can understand both of you..like u say...they dont have to be..depends on wut their brain is like..how they evolved..if they even evolved....we evolved which made us the humans we are today.....but yeah on the other hand if they are that old and they evolution went the same as here..they are probably more intelligent etc...

I didnt mean to offend, I was just curious to see whether someone who doesnt like the idea of more evolvedn or smarter aliens also doesnt like the idea of a higher up power, as both significantly make us appear small in the scope of things.

Like I said..

"Two Aussie astronomers discovered last year that there is a "galactic habitable zone" in our Milky Way Galaxy and that our sun is relatively young in comparison to the average star in this zone by about a billion years.

Theres mathematic equations to suggest how quick a species would advance generation apon generation through time, with a billion year head start, its more probable that they are ahead of us on a level which we can not even comprehend.

Having said that, it is also possible that there were many other species in our galaxy that have already died out that we will never know about.

What makes you guys think highly advanced alien civilizations would want o contact us in the first place?
People have theorized about sitations where we would be in the role of highly advanced civilisation, visiting a primitive species. = and the conclusion reached everytime was to employ a non-interference approach, for all sorts of reasons, which im too lazy to look up. pz i gtg snooz

I don't know why that conclusion was reached. If they're an intelligent civilisation, we have much to gain from contacting them.

MAYBE aliens studied earth and thought "Those earthlings are bloody barbarians, I don't think we *want* to make contact with such a blood thirsty bunch".

Q: If aliens studied earth, what would they think of it?
