No doubt. I just find it weird that you don't seem to be disgusted with that. You like the not-so-straightforward approach of Google making money off of you. Apple might take $300 more from me than another company, but at least I'm more aware of what I've sacrificed, as opposed to sacrificing my privacy, one that I cannot put a dollar value on.
I would be disgusted if I wouldn't understand it. I was disgusted with it at the beginning. That is until I realized that actually all companies collect our information and some even sell them further and we agree to it on daily basis.
It's just that Google set it as its primary goal and they no doubt plan to use it but not sell it. And it sounds worse than it is in reality.
Plus it's not the goal that usually disgusts me though. It's the way things are done. As far as I dislike huge companies I actually trust Google - I trust that they won't make my life much harder. I believe that it'll be under control and they won't use any info about me to annoy me and lose my trust. That's for their own good.

A small, almost invisible advertisement here or there is something that doesn't really annoy me and actually I'd rather pay that way for good services than pay with hard earned money to another company I don't trust and don't really like for services of worse quality.
I don't want to addict myself to Google products so if things get any worse I'll simply cut it off. If they make me aware of a certain product that's fine. I still do my research before buying anything and marketing has a very little impact on my decisions so I don't feel manipulated.
I don't give them any really important information. My private email is not on gmail and search history is tied with a google account, ip, service provider and area so they don't get much off me.
Some service providers also allow to see owner's name and you can actually see it with a simple app and this sucks ass but well, that's something everyone could see unfortunately.

I can always stop using my Google account. I can see how Google are trying to tie people with their Google accounts though.
On the other hand I can see that it's a company that is easy to trust. Their behavioral management system while being objective oriented seems really ethic and does great job motivating workers which also totally changes the way this company operates and how it's perceived by other people. That's enough for me to support that company.
It's a corporation with a decent image that it truly worked for, it's not based just on silly PR actions and commercial marketing.
I'd support companies like Google just "for the cause" - because as far as I dislike corporations I'd like to work in one like them.
I hope they influence other companies too, show that it's the way you can succeed. And I also control the situation in a way that I'll be able to stop using their services when things get out of hand or boycott them when they turn "bad". However I really doubt this happens, it would cost them too much. They are way too wealthy with what they're doing now and after all I feel like ethics are one of their main characteristics.
Also, I believe that in the future our information will be well protected and there'll be laws and restrictions regulating its transfers.

Funny, my netbook was 500$ and it came with a bigger harddrive, USB ports, and with MS Word/Excel/PowerPoint ... the IPad is the same price and has less. lol

Toshiba > That fruit company.

You should hold off till 3rd gen, like how people held off with iPhones.
I might.

The price won't come down. Maybe $100 off the 16GB when the 128GB comes out.

I don't have a problem being one of the 'early adopters' for this one. I already have dozens of productivity apps that will eventually be ported over to full resolution. It's going to be so much better with that screen. I'm hoping that Apple was kind enough to keep Office compatibility for iWork. That would be sweet. MUST HAVE HANDS-ON NOW!

Of course I'm going to need the camera and the gps when they decide to add it. :D

But one thing that hasn't been mentioned in this thread is that supposedly it has a 10 hour battery life and that you can watch like 5-6 feature films before it dies. That would be a lifesaver on airplane flights for the weak among us who can't read books for 10 hours.
We can never trust battery life claims, but Apple's been pretty good with theirs so a full day of use shouldn't be a problem. I heard 140 hours for music so...

I wonder what kind of effect it will have on the battery life if they allowed support for undesirable Flash content and true multitasking. That would probably give people a reason to say "zomg 4 hour battery life = epic fail".

300 hours stand by? like just sitting there - sure it can come close to that. I had "20% Remaining" last me two days.

Like I said, companies lie about battery life but Apple is pretty good with their estimates lately.

I remember reading a test claiming that in decent conditions even an Iphone 3gs couldn't make it past 3 days of stand by and 1,5 days of average usage.
I'd say Apple lies pretty much the most as it's the phone with the shortest battery life I know yet they claim 300 hours.

Here's a message from Fake Steve Jobs

I am so sick of the griping. Jesus! No Flash? Who cares? No camera? Have you ugly motherfuckers looked at yourselves lately? Trust me, we’re doing the world a favor leaving the camera off this thing.
