Ive posted all this before, as did Jon, so I dont know why there has been debate about it, although I know people on other sites are saying Jon sold it or whatever. If Jon sold it, why is nothing being done with it? The site had HUGE traffic and could have made a lot of money and was worth a lot, why would somebody buy it, and then do nothing with it? It makes no sense at all.

This is what happened and how it was taken. It wasnt even really hacked, it was STOLEN, I even made a section here before called HITEMUP STOLEN answering all of this.

Back in, geez I dont even know when, the early 2000s, Jon couldnt afford paying for the server. This was during the music boom and a company agreed to host the site for free in exchange for "owning it." What this meant was that they would own the rights to any advertising on it and control the domain. Jon, a law student, had a contract stipulating that he regained total control over the direction and content of the site and could "buy it back" at any time, which meant he would simply pay for his own hosting. The contract also said that if at any time this company went bust, Jon would regain total control over the domain name.

This was all posted about in the news and made public as we were very excited about it all because this company was developing a rather large music network.

Anyway, this lasted for about a year and eventually Jon took all control back and paid for hosting largely out of his own pocket.

The company went bust and their domain name expired.

Then the "hacker" bought their domain name and thus had access to their email accounts. Unfortunately, the HitEmUp.com domain name still had one of their email addresses as the registrant (Jon tried for ages to get it changed but it was stuck somehow). So with access to the registrant domain name, they simply reset the password and took control of the domain name.

Simple really, this was all made public. I dont know the little itty bitty details, and I dont really give a fuck about it to be honest. I know Jon wanted to take legal action but he never did, he now has a baby daughter and doesnt concern himself with the 2pac scene at all.

So yeah, you can all put the "Jon sold it" rumors to rest, why would someone buy it and then do nothing with it?

Case closed.

I remmber that section man & before that shit should of been known.i remember contactin you privately to catch what was happenin cause it was so crazy & we all were going around spreadin the truth

Maybe they were talking about the "who exactly hacked the site"? I dont know. Just guessing.

And yeah, i remember it was all posted back then.

question: do you think hitemup will ever be back?

i guess i wouldnt mind that..but im used to streethop a lot now..it would be kinda wierd to bring hitemup back..unless they were both on completely seperate sites not seperate sub-forums..

Can you address the other side of the story, such as the belief that there was NO HACK and NO THEFT, but that you used the idea of a hack to instill nationalism in the 2pac fans ("soldier" user title) as you made your switch from a 2pac site to a hip-hop oriented site?

Now, I don't necessarily believe this to be true, but I don't wish to dismiss it either.

StreetHop existed before the hack.

well yeah that would be cool if they were seperate sites.

i really like streethop and all but i wish there was a quality alternative to mrmakaveli when it comes to 2pac stuff. its not that i dont like mrmakaveli but to me its like the bastard child of hitemup (forget who said that first)...

imo freetupac.com should be made into a tupac community, kinda like the sequel to the stolen hitemup. im sure alot of members from here would contribute.

...his name was Jeremy or something.

wasn't that one of the admins at 2pacboard.NET?
