New distraction is the focus on instances in the past week or black dudes getting killed or threatened by white people, at least in the US. People are slowly forgetting about quarantine and are also looking at things opening up in the next week or so. Friday is the day restaurants and salons open up and I have to admit I'm relieved for the latter. It's been three months since a haircut for me and I look shaggy as fuck.

Hopefully it's over this November after people "on the fence" or people who simply didn't vote in 2016 finally get a good idea of what Trump brought and will continue to bring if he's brought back for a second term. Biden would be a bookend to a fucked up past four years, but at least we won't go any lower and look for a proper leader four years from now.
Anyone's city getting hit hard by rioters over the George Floyd protests?
We're about 30 minutes from downtown, but many suburbs' police forces sent out notifications that rioters and looters were threatening to come out to this area.
A few malls near us were targeted and the second closest Best Buy to me got looted. Many other smaller businesses, like our clinic, decided to close down early for the day around 2 PM.

Could just be me, but I'm paying very close attention to the looters and rioters' race....and it seems predominantly non-black. Whites, hispanics, etc. Which isn't to say they're the only ones doing it but just overall chaos seems to be from a certain demographic of white people.

My prediction is the internet/social media continues to shed light on the issues and protest for change but, long-term, I think the majority of the voters will push it to the back row and instead feel more impacted and swayed by the rioters and looters and vote to address the aftermath of those versus the social issues being brought up now. Not that they don't care about the vast number of instances of police brutality and the issue race plays in to them, but voters will still think about their financial well-being over social issues. The internet and the real world are two different realms and disconnected from each other and I think 2016 showed that. I think the 2018 mid-terms showed that. And I also think Bernie supporters got another lesson in that during the primaries earlier this year, that your movement can seem unstoppable on the internet but it can come crashing down when it comes time to actually vote. A big issue being voter turnout.
Maybe it'll change in November and Biden comes out with a campaign that appeals to more people, but I have a sneaking suspicion most of the voting population will take the bait of "more money" or jobs and put aside whatever support they had for social change and vote red.
Just my guy feeling. As usual, it will be young voters vs old voters and it's pretty clear who actually goes out to vote.
And then there's the latest data regarding the supposed number of jobs created. I think it's too soon to be ranting and raving about that statistic. Let's see how the US economy fares over a longer period.

I think people have switched from not supporting BLM than the opposite.
Despite having only a slightly more competent git in Biden running, I think a lot more Trump supporters have had enough of him and his inaction. I think he’s lost a good bit of support from voters and now even his party is openly criticizing him. Romney marching? anyone have that on their bingo card?
Even my very conservative friends in the South have come around to what most people were saying about Trump years ago. I don’t think they ever truly supported him to begin with but just did so to stay within party lines. But my friends, and their wives alike, have been very open on social media about their support. It could be performative bullshit but I will say I’ve seen performative bull shit from strangers online and my friends seem to be at least a step above that.
Which is interesting to see.

All this protesting and people being jailed, I think we just set ourselves back to early-March, in terms of measures to control the spread. There may not be a second wave and instead well just ride the original wave in to the Fall.

I'm not confident it will happen but I really hope more states allow people to vote by mail by November. We do it in CO and you pretty much don't have an excuse not to vote at that point.
