Why are visitors not allowed to view the forum?

I tried getting on here as I do every few years or so, didn't remember my log in details so I couldn't see the board. Just saying, if guests were allowed to browse the forums for a bit it might attract a few new members (not that the place isn't so full of activity that it literally overloads my mind already). Something to consider.

I'll log in again in December to read the 2 responses.
 
You can view about 5 threads as a guest. Visitors aren't allowed to view more than that because then they won't be induced to register and become active members.

OK I kind of see the thinking behind that move, but it doesn't seem to be working well. Some more time to lurk and get aquainted with the people and the feel of the forum would probably lead to more people signing up to post, whereas there is no real connection formed after just reading 5 threads.
 
Yes, I think what might induce them to register is because they want to post, and i don't know if 5 threads is enough for that. Make it 6.
 
All forums can be bypassed by merely blocking cookies from that site.
