The New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies OF Bobby Abreu have reached a tenatative deal today. The trade at this moment would send OF B. Abreu and P. C Lidle to the Yankees for unnamed prospects, possibly including the Yankees #1 draft pick last year. Of course for this trade to go through Abreu would have to waive his no trade clause.

Also, Abreu isn't in the Phillies starting line-up today.

Yeah, I read earlier today that this was probably going to happen.

It looks like the Yankees will send 2005 1st round SS C.J. Henry, LHP Matt Smith, and another minor leaguer to the Phillies.

Good pickup for the Yanks, but it doesn't mean anything if their pitching can't keep opponents in check.

I also wonder what the future holds for Abreu and the Yanks. They're going to have to pick up his option and probably even give him an extension. So who leaves the OF when everyone is healthy? I don't think Sheffield would be too happy about playing DH.

The deal is final.

Lidle has a 4.74 ERA in the NL. So what's that gonna equal in the AL?

Oh, and Steve Phillips loves the deal. What does that tell ya?

And John Kruk said the Yanks should get Sheffield to play 1B. anyone else see that happening?

Well it should improve the line-up, but I don't see it helping their pitching much, and I don't see Sheffield as a Yankee next season.

Probably not, but won't he be back by the end of the season?

I bet he's real irritated right now. I think he expected to resign with NY and finish his career there.

I think so, he just got his cast taken off, and I think on Monday he is expected to meet with doctors to see when he can start swinging a bat.

Yes, he's probably not feeling very happy right now, and this looks like a sign that they won't pick up his extension.

sheffield* is the odd man out as a starter, granted im sure he'll be the first guy to play when someone needs a day off

melky deserves to stay, damons the only one who can play center (besides melky) and abreu has rf

matsui is perfect for DH

giambi* will play 1st

and as for Lidle, there really isnt anybody good available on the market besides Zito who costs too much, and I'll take Lidle over Sidney Ponson any day of the week
