The precursor to one of hip-hop’s most famous albums of all time has recently surfaced onto the internet. Although not available in the greatest quality, the 36 Chambers Demo provides new and remarkable insights into an album glorified by years of thorough analysis and time itself.
The original version of ‘Bring Da Ruckas’ is incredibly minimalist, making its retail counterpart seem more complex than previously assumed. This is affirmed by the absence of Ghostface and GZA on the track. Raekwon has a completely different verse and RZA closes the song by shouting “35 Chambers.”
‘After The Laughter’, which went on to become ‘Tearz’, is another example of the vocal styling that took place on 36 Chambers.
The demo is part of a batch of new Wu Tang material put out by the group themselves over their official website.
It was this very demo that landed the Wu Tang Clan a deal with Loud Records over ten years ago, and despite the hisses and the crackles, stands as a wonderful introspective for hip-hop fans all over the world.
