well, it's just about that time for me to start sending in college applications... got a couple schools in mind, but i want just an...aresenal or schools to fall back on in case i dont get into the ones i want to

so i was wondering, how did you find out what a school asked of you, as far as admission requirements went?? obviously, the site, but they dont include specifics, and im guessing so that they dont drive away potential students...

but isnt there a site taht tells you the minimum requirements of most colleges?? i just googled my ass off, and couldnt find any....

and i didnt know where else to post this...so dont even start..

my college had the requirments on their website for the course i'm in, but I don't think they really followed that since we have a lot of dumbasses in my class (80%+ in advanced english was the requirment). I don't know about US colleges though

The minimum requirements for any school should be on that school's website and applications as well. I don't think there's a website that has the requirements for universities, seeing how that would be a pain in the ass. But just figure out what schools you want to apply for, go to their websites, then look under admissions and the information should be there.

i've been doing that for years now.....not many say their requirements....state schools, at least, dont.... then private schools basically cover tuition costs...

examples of such are univ. of illinois at chicago, villanova, etc....villanova's private though, isnt it?? i dunno..but tit dosent have its requirements either.... and i dunno if my school counselor would know them... i figured he'd be the best person to ask, but he'd ask for a list of schools...i wanna go to him know what im talking about when im talking about schools that ask for "a little more"....ya know?

just ask for application materials - it will all be there. use us news & world reports for rankings, gather materials, then apply.

that being said, i took the sat and the act (34 baby!) and no one ever asked for my sat score. also, no one gave two fucks about all those faggot clubs i participated in thinking they would. in fact, no one ever even asked my gpa (which i was rather proud of).

For me I was looking into the Arts (visual) and Homeopathy, the arts kind of had a higher standard in that one school wanted I believe 70 or 80 plus in English which I had, and that I complete highschool, also they wanted a brief bio and "what I wanted to accomplish here" type o list. They based my acceptance upon my portfolio, the works I had completed, I got in but never finished high school so I could not attend. I will be currently attending Art School this September (the 11th) and their criteria was again, the portfolio and that I complete highschool, I still haven't finished highschool but I got in on the condition that I complete high school before December dissappears.

For the homeopathy school, highschool was my req. as well as two references, a brief bio and write up as to why I wanted to be a homeopath. They also req. two years prev of science or art in uni/college but I was applying under the 'special' student prog. which would req. you to do those 2 years while attending.

Health and Art are my passions so I fig. I'd do it more slowly so I could enjoy each instead rush, get broke and not even enjoy shit. So art first, health second.

Its dif. for each program, I found that what they look for above all is an interest/passion for what your studying.

Generally when you are applying to the school their site would list what is required, however, it can be outdated or true only to an extent, for example, the homeopathic school had a list that made it seem that I was 'out of their leauge', but when I called them and spoke with them in person I found out I wasn't and that it was attainable.

In homeopathy there is no codefied legislation as yet, so tour the schools if possible and speak with as many people there to get a sense of what their true intents are, perhaps write a list of Q's so you dont forget as I found some homeopath schools did not imo have my best interest at hand.

Basicaly, just do what you know, apply that and you'll learn more as you apply what you know, cause a lil knowledge used will get you a lil more. Alot unused, what the hell is that good for? you hear. :)

peace,
Khalil

yeah...but its just the applying part and waiting for the acceptance...so..the hells lasts from december to april....4 months... ah whatever...

and dante, sounds like you didnt even apply for college....isnt your GPA kinda the most important thing after your standardized test scores??

my GPA is horrible, but i plan on retaking the act to improve upon that 28...but 34 is godly....wow

It's hard to say which is the most important factor when it comes to admissions. My older brother went on to be a counselor at the university we both graduated from, and I remember how he'd handle stacks of applications. From what I remember, he looked at the following things:

* Amount of honors/advanced placement classes taken during high school (definitely a big factor)
* GPA and SAT
* Extracurricular activities and community service (not as important but still something to consider)
* Personal statement... my brother really hated reading the same boring-ass story about how certain applicants would write about their parents' hardships. It's not that he didn't respect the obstacles that were overcome, he was just very unimpressed at reading the same story over and over about how the applicant's parents came to the U.S. from some shitty country and worked at some shitty place, and at the same time some applicants would write about that type of stuff and hope for sympathy and try to explain why they didn't get straight As but still want to get into a prestigious school. He really put a lot of emphasis on applicants being creative and original when it comes to personal statements, since that is an equal playing field for everybody, regardless of race, upbringing, economic status, etc.
