what tool do you use to take out or lower the volume of the percussion (drums)?

the percussion's sound frequencies usually clash with the voice of the singer/rapper. so taking out those frequencies will usually result in the "wah-wah" sound transformation in the vocals, which is not good and doesnt sound real.
a better way to do things is keep the voice the same with the percussion still there and just overlap the percussion with your own drums and just put some extra ones in there that way the voice sounds natural still, and the drums sound changed-up so it is very original. just try to get a good deal of the synthesis out of the mix so you can put your own.
