the half windsor is traditionally the most appropriate for every day work, but for other events it depends on the occasion and the type of shirt. i think a full windsor is a bit fat, and i like to have a lot of extra on the short end, but the fatter your knot then you might be left with a little stub in the back (requiring a tie pin).
