I was watching this thing about Turrets a couple nights ago and it left me wondering; do people with Turrets type swear words too?

I had a customer who had turrets, well I'm pretty sure she did. Pretty much from the moment I answered the call she was yelling at me but it was more like random words between what she was trying to say, cant say she swore much was just the yelling.. It's kinda weird when you get in a situation like that, at first I was thinking "why is she so upset I havent done anything yet?" but I figured that was it.

I remember running into a lady at Marshall Field's (now Macy's) who might have had Tourettes, but she just kept making noises and straining not to make a noise. I don't think she actually got a word out....just loud sounds. That has to be so frustrating for someone though.

I'm wondering...is it only swear words that they scream out? And why is that? Seems like they'd just yell out random words instead of many swears.

It's called coprolalia, which is 'involuntary swearing or the involuntary utterance of obscene words or socially inappropriate and derogatory remarks'.

Also it's not a defined characteristic of Tourette Syndrome. Most people with tourettes don't shout out words at all.

Really? I thought it was named after a doctor called Tourette.

Im not sure who it is named after, but its misspelled so much, even in proper texts, that it has become accepted. I admit I made the mistake, but its such a common mistake most sources label it as Tourette's Syndrome (Turrets Syndrome).

I guess if the majority of people get something wrong it becomes accepted and right. Says a lot about society dont you think?

Begging the question was originally a way to describe improper argumentation.

Now since so many people used it in the wrong way, it has now become acceptable to say begging the question means to raise a question. Which is false, originally but now is true.

I remember somebody posted videos of this guy some time ago:

Is this turrets syndrome or is he faking?
I always thought they can't control their words, it's like they say it without even thinking about it, but everything this guy says makes a sense.

but answering to the subject I'm quite sure they can write normally. They just curse a lot but they don't use any insults when writing text. Even if, they have time to delete all insults.
I remember watching a document about people who had turrets and except cursing a lot they're normal like everybody else. They are fully awake to their mental illness.

A simple wikipedia search would dispel the rumors and inform you about it, guys. Jeez.

Of course they dont type swear words, I just thought the idea and speculation of it is funny and thus would serve as a funny thread filled with fake turrets posts; I didnt expect it to become this serious of a discussion.

^Oh, I know you were joking, that's why I said "lol" but then said No just to make sure people didn't think I thought so. That quoted post was specifically referring to those who are like "i thought it was those who hurl out swear words", not for you haha.
