When I'm lucky it only takes me 30 minutes to fall asleep but on average it takes at least 1-2 hours. It's starting to piss me the fuck off, which makes it unbearable to just lie there.

Any suggestions on what I can do to fall asleep faster? Except for weed and sleeping pills.

1. Work out during the day
2. Wake up at 7am and be on your feet all day
3. Jerk before sleep

how is your mattress? i used to have problems going to sleep then a few summers ago i got a new bed. after that i was out with in minutes. i can still fall asleep pretty quick as long as the ass who lives above me isnt playing video games so loud you can here it all the way down at disney.

You need to have a full day. People who have an active day are more likely to conk out earlier and have longer periods of restful sleep at night. Some exercise during the day is a good substitute for a busy day.

Don’t look at the clock! Turn it around. Put it in a drawer. You can’t possibly relax if you watch the minutes ticking away and you’re calculating how many hours of sleep you have left before you have to get up.

Get up and relax. If you can’t sleep, don’t just toss and turn. Get up and do something relaxing. What sometimes happens to me is I get more and more tired as my usual time to sleep approaches, but if I keep myself up past that time, I get less and less tired until I’m wide awake. What helps then is I take a difficult book, maybe philosophy, and start reading it. I’m so awake that it seems easy to read. That lasts about 20 minutes and then I’m tired out. But now my mind is full of deep thoughts and it feels satisfied. That helps me sleep. Maybe watching some TV will do it for you, or reading something boring, like a technical manual for building a swing set.

Also, have some warm tea. Then build that swing set.

Try not to drink anything with caffeine. Don't think too hard about your problems at night. Watch your sleeping pattern.

I´ve had this on and off for years. For me it seems that when I go through some difficult decision making in life or something really bothers me that I can´t stop thinking about it until I fall asleep. Sometimes it takes me 2-3 hours. What really helps me (when I get the time) is to just sit down all by myself and just reflect on my live and to figure out a "game-plan" for the future. Unfortunately I hardly have any spare time these days but I always try to have a few hours on the weekends. I call ist "conscious thinking". After that I can easily fall asleep within 10-20 minutes.

Also try exhausting sex, booze and heavy work-outs.

yeah try to get up a lil ealier so you're tired at night..... and don't lie down too quickly, I usually go to bed when I'm tired, that means 50% of the time I actually just pass out and don't go to bed.

Workin out doesn't make me tired, if anything it helps me to cut down my sleep.

I have a hard time falling asleep too.

Part of it might be the mattress. I have a regular mattress and it took me hours to fall asleep. Now that I have a pillow top...I fall asleep a lot faster. I still can't fall asleep right away but I do fall asleep a lot faster than I used to.

Also find something that works to make you sleepy. It's a trial and error thing. Watching TV puts me to sleep but the volume has to be on. My little cousin falls to sleep with warm water. It depends on the person.

Being active through the day doesn't really mean anything. I used to leave for work at 6:15 to be there at 7. Work until about 5. Leave and go to the gym. Leave the gym and go to school. Go home and do homework. Then get ready for bed and just lay there looking dumb...wishing i could fall asleep.

I say try a new mattress and find a little thing that works for you.

Booze will help you pass out but you're even more tired when you wake up.. and i always wake up super fuckin early after a night of drinkin.. it blows

try to make some hot cocoa. warm milk does wonders.

other than that, jokerman basically summed it up. a day is a cycle to your body, and minor changes to it can fuck up your cycle. the fact that you smoke occasionally and used to smoke daily is probably a huge factor. it gets like this for me when i can't take a hit about 20-40 minutes before i go to bed. when i can, it normally takes 5-30 minutes.

Completely forgot about this.
Thanks for the advice, I'll give some of it a try.

I'm like Chronic...I just lie there for about 2 hours thinking about random stuff.

I think that's my main problem, I can't shut off my thoughts.

if it's a situation where you used to smoke weed all the time and you recently stopped, that is almost guaranteed to be the cause. see, when you get high on a regular basis you get used to burning out to fall asleep. once you're not burning out anymore the body has trouble shutting down naturally. i went through that when i cut way back on how much i smoke. for almost a month it was taking me at least an hour, usually more like 2 or 3 hours to fall asleep. but your body will readjust eventually.

if it's not the weed, then try some of the solutions posted, i know some have worked for me in the past.

Actually this is true. When I stopped smoking I couldnt sleep for shit but after a while my sleeping was back to normal. Has it been a while since you smoked?
