Threads with usernames in them.

I don't like them. They are pointless.

If the thread is really about something else, make the title about that. If the thread is really directed toward that member, PM. When a new user enters the forum and sees fifteen threads called "DarkPhantom", "ill-matic...???", "Sebastian - why?", and other stupid shit... well you get the picture.

I will close them all from here on out.

It's somewhat of an interesting way to confront a person. When I made the illmatic thread, he PM'ed and said, "Do it in a PM". But, that loses the point of the thread in the first place. It is to bring truth to light.

So, although a thread addresses one person specifically, the overall indirect goal is to provide the masses of streethop with information.

I made a thread asking seb and ilu if they drink. They said they don't. The majority of streethop now knows they don't drink and we found out two things about two members that we probably wouldn't find out otherwise. Also, I felt pretty smart when I guessed Ilu doesn't drink. He just fit the profile where's my badge?


Now, Preach, I know you're not dumb. This board needs activity and creativity. Your actions will prohibit both.

I was not talking directly to any one of you so I wasn't confronting you, sorry if I gave off that impression.

Here's an idea though. Instead of asking Seb and Illu if they drink, ask the whole board if they drink, call the thread "Do you drink alcohol?" instead of "Seb and Illu" (dunno what you called the thread, again, I wasn't calling you or anyone else out specifically, I used random usernames in the examplified thread titles above) and then at the end of the thread title say "I am specifically wondering about Sebastian and Illuminattile". Or some other way. Recently a lot of people started making threads to create activity but it's shitty activity. I don't feel like responding to any of those threads normally because I don't care if Sebastian or Illuminattile drink alcohol. I'm sure more people feel the same way, so either way we would be prohibiting activity somehow. I'm not gonna be a Sebastian nazi about this, but I think it's pointless to make threads directed at individual people in a forum that's supposed to be abour discussion for everyone.

But yeah, I am and will be thinking about what you just said.

Basically, I think SiGh is the biggest offender in this anyway

The point of many of those threads is to start by asking a specific person a question and then have the rest of the board debate on the answer provided by said member. Admitidly there are many thread that don't follow this pattern.

if i come on here one day and see a thread called "PuffnScruff" with two pages of replies, where a discussion is starting to form, i'm not just gonna close it blindly. But if someone makes a thread called "Sebastian" while i'm on the boards, and the thread asks "why on god's earth would you get married at the age of 20" i would close it immediately and see no reason why i shouldn't.

alternatively, we can just remove the forum guidelines for a while and say that people can do whatever they want so long as there's activity until breaking the rules becomes so much of a problem that we have to start acting precautious. i have the fact that rukas wants me to supermod the forum, the guidelines, and the users' opinions dragging me in three directions. in the end i will judge each such thread individually. let's say i made this thread to present the idea so it's out there then.
