The lost presidents

My ego isn't bruised. It's easy to state falsities like that when you are losing in a debate, isn't it? It's a simple way of trying to assert that one has the upper hand, when one does not.

However, I am not one to fall for your parlour tricks.

And the circumstances that led to the founding of one's country and government is certainly something that the education establishment would require to be common knowledge, unless of course there has been a colossal failing on the part of said establishment. Something of course that is all too true for the US, where 16-18 year olds regularly fail at tests that 11-12 year olds in other countries pass.

Hence why President Obama is increasing the number of days in each school year by a further few weeks, he is all too aware that the bar needs to be raised.

The presidents of continental congress just aren't interesting or relevant enough to be common knowledge.

Not to say it's not interesting to know, but in the broad scope of general knowledge it's a bit specific. I think that if you would study (historical) state organization you'd come across a lot of these positions, boards, comites, whatevers.

If it is not in K12 school curricula, it is because the school districts made a conscious decision not to include it. It was left to more advanced history courses. Whether it SHOULD be taught in K12 is a completely different debate and one that I don't particularly care to engage in.

I don't think there's been a failure on the part of the US gov't because it isn't common knowledge who were the presiding officers of the Continental Congress but I believe few would argue that the US educational system doesn't have to improve.

That's the proposal, yes. I don't know the status of it right now. I'm all for it.

You get nutcases going on shooting sprees everywhere. Wasn't the most recent one on an Army base?
