I just saw it tonight on the telly (never have before) and it's so amazingly cheesy. I mean, the only reason this is so well known must be the shock value of it, especially in 1973, but the cheesy "horror" is, just, well..cheesy. The spontaneous vomiting is something for a Scooby Doo joke. It never, not once got even remotely scary.

So as a "well made" film it was disappointing. But it's shock value is great. That made it entertaining to watch at times, but for the rest it's nothing.

yeah. the movie definately sucked, relative to horror movies in the present day.

however, back in the early 70s, horror movies never even came close to shit like that. so it scared the hell out of people.

i mean, they have clips in news archives from back then, where they show people throwing up outside of the theater and not being able to sleep for days and a whole bunch'a shit.

ah, to live in such a simpler time...

I liked the Exorcist. It's a well done movie, although its not very scary. That one part where "Help Me" appears on her stomach is creepy.

I saw the new Amityville Horror last night and it blew. The babysitter in it was really hot though :thumb:

Nah, that was silly. Me and my mates thought (hoped?) for a second it was some old language that appeared on her body. That would've been cool, mysterious and freaky. But "help me" was, again, cheesy.

The only actually semi-cool part is when the shit just started, the mother is walking around in the house with the lights out and there are quick flashes of skulls and other emblems. That was kinda tight, especially since it happened so fast. But it was still a bit too evident. It should've been so fast that you wouldnt know whether you saw it or not.

well i can undertsand watching th efilm now, everyone is like whats the big deal, but the film it self i think is really good, am sure must pppl laughed their asses off at the young girl swearing,

but the direction and the atmosphere it created was what made it a good film.

Keep in mind, when this was released, nothing of it's kind was made before. We have seen douzens of demon movies. Back then, especially the fact it was a true story, was something to be scared about. We as a people nowadays, we have been desensitized when it comes to violence and such. Back then, you wouldn't see Arnold Swazernagger pump 2 uzzi clips in someone's face. You wouldn't see 'sawing off your own leg' like in Saw

this movie was based on a true story. it's pretty scary to think that this shit actually happend a little kid who is all grown up and still living here in the states today.

No scary movie is really scary. How much can one person be scared of a visual image on the TV screen. If it pops up on the screen like some of those prank things that people post here, then yes, there's the shock factor.
But in scary movies, it's mostly the sound and the music that builds you up and the visual is supposed to knock you done. Atleast it's supposed to anyway.
