Okay, now that you're in my thread, I need help!

I have three weeks to type a 6-8 page paper on Existentialism.

It has to be a definition paper, which pretty much means, my thesis is my definition and then I have to find supporting details as my resources.

So, here is my thesis/definition. . .

A philosophy that emphasizes the uniqueness and isolation of the individual experience in a hostile or indifferent universe, regards human existence as unexplainable, and stresses freedom of choice and responsibility for the consequences of one's acts.

Now, you guys help me find some theories for or against that statement that are valid and can be used in my paper!

PLEASE! ! ! !

Love ya Lots for the help.
Syn

Sorry for the deception :(

You're lucky I even entered the thread after highlighting it and seeing "Okay, now that you're in my thread, I need help!"

No Help!

post a pic I really want to help ya girl! lol

Isn't ripping your thesis from dictionary.com kind of... plagiarism?

And even so - what exactly are you trying to prove right/wrong? That that's an accurate definition of existentialism? Or are you looking for arguments for/against existentialism yourself?

LOL, okay sorry for the deception, but I do need help, i'm in class now posting on pacboard, like school isn't in session, I can't focus on this topic right now, why couldn't i get something cool like pornography :(

nah, the prof wants us to use an actual definition that we find in a dictionary.

Then she wants arguments that either support the definition or don't.

Depending on whether I find more pro or con defs, that's which way i'll lean.

In that case, the best thing to do would be find whatever made existentialism what it was, and see how it compares to the dictionary definition.

Jean-Paul Sartre's "Existentialism Is a Humanism" is one of the defining pieces on existentialism.
http://www.marxists.org/reference/archive/sartre/works/exist/sartre.htm

From there, you could look at other philosophers assorted with existentialism - Nietzsche, Kierkegaard, Heidegger, etc. Or writers in the literary sense - Camus (The Stranger is short and great), the Marquis de Sade, Dostoevsky, Kerouac. Then there's all the existentialism in film - Woody Allen movies, I Heart Huckabees, American Beauty, etc.

I'd go with the essay, something else by Sartre, one of those Beat generation books, and one of the movies.

aww. i'd help you but i'm gonna be so honest as to say i suck at essays and debate. i'm not very smart school-wise. my wisdom is undeniable as is my cleverness, however, my knowledge is somewhat lacking.
