England head coach Sven Goran Eriksson says he has no problem with his senior players.

The Swede landed himself in hot water by telling an undercover newspaper reporter that he will quit The Three Lions if he leads them to World Cup glory during the summer.

He also made a number of indiscreet comments about some of his players, including Michael Owen, David Beckham and Wayne Rooney.

But Eriksson insists that, despite the nature of the revelations, he still has the confidence of his squad, saying: "I do not feel I have embarrassed the players.

"I have spoken to almost all of them... Beckham, Rooney, Rio Ferdinand and Michael Owen.

"I did not contact Shaun-Wright Phillips because he was playing at Sunderland, but I will do so.

"It would have been better without the article, of course, but having spoken to them about it, there is no problem."

It was reported by The News of the World that Eriksson said Ferdinand was 'sometimes lazy', Rooney 'has a temper and comes from a poor family', and Beckham is 'a bit frustrated' at Real Madrid.

He also spoke of Newcastle United striker Owen, adding: "I talked to Michael Owen and said: 'You are happy?' He (Owen) said: 'Not really with the club, but economically, I never earned that money in my life'.

"So they paid the salary more than Real Madrid did. He (Owen) said: 'They gave me a house, they gave me a car, it's incredible'. They had to do it because in any other way, he wouldn't have gone there."

Eriksson responded to accusations that his comments may have driven a wedge between Owen and The Toon Army, saying: "I do not think Michael Owen will have a problem with the Newcastle

I don't like him to be honest, i dislike his cautious approach to games and his blind loyalty to certain players but the media, especially the NOTW need to check themselves cos this is doing no good for England.

All they did was prove what everyone knew anyway and that's that win or lose the World Cup and Sven is gonna be off. They dress all this up with a fake Sheikh and claim an exclusive, patheitc.

I'm not bothered at all he was tryin to line up a good job for afterwards, anyone else would do the same, what does bother me is tryin to stir up mis-trust between him and our most influential players (and SWP!).

It was the most stupid, pointless, over-hyped and destructive stunt they could've pulled and like his agent said, it was entrapment anyway. Not like he just blurted it all out, it was carefully planned.
