Any of you guys use solar energy as your main (or extra) energy source?

This is interesting read:
http://seekingalpha.com/article/306468-the-real-issue-with-solar-energy-isn-t-its-cost

The cost of energy from solar power near the equator has reached grid parity. Also, there's no "cost" per se for solar energy as you don't pay for energy, because it's actually free and at the same time 'environment' savings are uncountable. You pay only for the utility only.
I think solar energy is super cool and I was always a little upset that people don't really feel like investing in it. It would make the prices lower and the world such a better place, yo. I mean, it's not like the market isn't growing - because it's one of the fastest growing markets these days but.. people are still unconvinced or don't care or don't even consider that as an option for their house.

It's also funny how Germany rocks their solar and wind power even though the weather there absolutely sucks for both of those technologies and they say it's totally worth it. While places like Hawaii and California rely on fossil fuels, while they could clearly take advantage of solar power with relatively stable energy production during daytime.

Anyway, the problem for solar energy that this article pointed out is energy surplus during peak sunlight which would make energy prices.. negative which is a problem for private companies providing solar power plants.
Personally I think the fossil fuel companies might be the real issue here and the reason why people don't use solar energy is initial investment and being silly and it's not really marketed at all which is surprising.

We used to have some amazing grants for solar power. Which meant you'd end up getting an amazing deal over the 25 years. They'd pay you for using the energy that your solar cells would produce. But... They stopped it when the recession hit.

Otherwise... I live in a country with a small amount of sunshine. So... Not worth it. Plus... They are fucking ugly stuck on your roof.

I was more interested in a geothermal heat pump aka ground source heat.

Fossil fuels are where it's at. I mean, i need a job too, right?

I've just seen this thread again, as it's the last one posted in WOW.

But... Do you have anything to do with Potash Mining. I bought some shares in a potash company that has a lot of land in Aus. I think Queensland. I bought in at 7p a share and they are now 14p. But they were 30p a few months ago.

I don't have anything to do with Potash.... but

It makes sense that they fell a few months ago. That's when gold plummeted back down to ~1250/ounce. I know it's risen some since, but all commodities follow whatever gold is doing. I know a few Potash companies were hit hard in Canada a monthish ago because of fraudulence. That would also play a part in the price of Potash dropping.
