Server problems

It seems we have well and truely outgrown our server. RAM and Swap Memory fills up when loads get high and the server dies. I have to upgrade to a server with twice the RAM.

This will cost me US$300 a month plus $250 set up. StreetHop.com does not make any profit, so this is currently not something I can afford, so it looks like the site is going to go down unless I can either come up with a solution or some money.

Im still accepting donations to paypal@streethop.com if you want to help. If you donate and we dont come up with enough for the server I will refund the donations or send them on to a charity of my choice.

Anyway, just thought Id give ya all a heads up.

$300 a month is a lot of money to have to pay to run the website..Are u working full time or are u n college?.Do the ads not bring in revenue?

Ads bring in about 60 a month or so.

I dont work and I dont go to college. I havent been online in weeks cause Im always out hustling, I make mine in other ways, but no, I dont do no 9 to 5 shit no more that aint for me not right now.

when i hit the 1.5 year mark, i will think about getting VIP lol, but it won't help much...
i don't know why the server would be overloaded though. a while back when there were way more people online constantly, things were going fine. do you really need a dedicated server? maybe you can just use a decent webhost with a lot of bandwidth and whatnot. check out the thread im about to post...

If a dedicated server isnt strong enough a webhost wont do jack shit, bandwidth is not an issue, RAM is. We are getting more traffic than before, with less posts, I know its weird, but the majority of people just read the news and dont post.

So to answer your question, yes, we really need a dedicated server.

Im going to need US$300 a month but Im working on getting other advertisers from the start of the year that will hopefully boost revenue.

Thats only 1meg of RAM, we need at least 4. And we need dual core 2.8's at least.

Like Ive mentioned before, it has nothing to do with bandwidth, we are fine with bandwidth, we need a server with more RAM as we have maxed out the RAM and Swap Memory.

Put it this way, its like running Quake 4 on a P2 with a fast internet connection. Sure you dont get lag (bandwidth is fine) but it just runs slow and shitty anyway because you dont have the right PC for the job (in this case we dont have enough RAM).
