Rapper, Royce DA 5'9, has been sentenced to one year in prison after violating his probation, stemming from a charge of driving under the influence (DUI).
The rapper, born Ryan Montgomery, was arrested and charged with DUI over the summer in his hometown of Oakland County, Michigan. He was sentenced to one year in jail, but may have a chance to challenge the judge's decision, which supporters have deemed as "harsh".
A source close to the Detroit, Michigan, native tells AllHipHop.com, "He may be able to appeal it.
"I think they are really making examples out of people. He didn't even blow that much over. It wasn't like he was drunk and he hit someone - he was driving home at four in the morning."
"It's never like this is the city of Detroit, or in Wayne County."
Royce, who had been working on albums with DJ Premiere and DJ Butter prior to sentencing, could appeal the judge's decision in hopes of limiting his jail time.
Representatives for the rapper are asking fans to support the rapper, who leaves behind a family. Free Royce t-shirts are currently being made for supporters.
