Recording hiss

Whenever I record there's a hiss in the background. Anyone know how to fix this? I don't think it's the mic itself.

Theirs was an article in some magazine this month about this.I cant remember the name of it but i was reading it in the shop 2 weeks ago.It said something about wind noise being very hard to remove from a recording.not sure about hiss.Maybe this program might work:

Get some good audio plugins that you can use to remove the hiss.

Yeah it's actually not a hiss, it's white noise.

I don't think it's the mic itself though.

Trying to remove the white noise sucks as it decreases the vocals. I recorded something as a test today and even with the beat on you could hear exactly when what I recorded started to play.

I just have this feeling that it's your computer fan interfering.

If you can provide me with some sample audio (accapella, just you saying "test test test rukas rules test test" will work great) Ill be able to help you out.

Chances are if this is a new noise your cable is fucked. Did you slam it in the door or something? Stand a chair on it? Etc etc etc?

Otherwise, are you running the mic cable parallel with any other cables? Such as power cables? This is a big no no. Cross the cables over if you have to but only at right angles otherwise you get static.

A computer fan wont cause hiss, it will cause a hum, and plus I assume youre recording a fair distance from the computer anyway.

Without more information, Id bet that it was the cable, if its not the mic itself.

i wonder if one of your coils is busted inside the mic

anyways i know the description of that mic says "vocal mic" but it is ment for an on stage mic for performers. not the ideal mic you would want to record vocals with in a studio, home, or any situation unless you were recording a live performance or you were an opera singer or stevie nicks and even she used a different sennheiser mic.

my suggestion would be to get rid of it, sell it, pawn it, whatever and use that money towards a condenser microphone. i've heard the usb condensers are good and ive heard that some suck. i have never used one, my microphone experience is mostly in more high end top brand mics. i dont know where you live but guitar center sells decent quality condenser mics for under 100 bucks. you can get the same mics on musiciansfriend.com .

i will say this till the day i die, never record vocals with a dynamic mic. escpecially if you rap. condenser mic is what you need.

if it is a cable like rukas is saying you can fix that yourself. i make my own mic cables and instrument cables. it is not hard you just need a soldering gun.
