Question about Tupac Awards?

I don't understand the streethop award system. I mean first people put in names into 3 catergories (1st, 2nd & supp), say a member gets mentioned way more then others yet when it's poll time someone who only got mentioned once or so wins the award? How is that fair to the people that got mentioned a shit load of times? Lol?

The previous threads were nomination threads to decide who would be up for the categories. Originally, only people who were nominated and seconded would make the cut. The supporting votes were strictly to break ties if too many people got nominated.

If you read the rules, this was explained. That's why I told people to stop voting for Mark Deez in the Punching Bag thread. Those threads had nothing to do with who should win, but who you think deserved a chance to win.

In some categories I had to include members who were not seconded because there were not enough. I wanted every category to have at least 4 people running. If I didn't make this concession, Helena would have been the only member running for Rookie of the Year.

It's like if Roaches and Chronic beat out goymz for hip-hop head of the year. I mean for the most part of the year roaches and Chron have done nothing in streethop besides the occasional thread. Where as Goymz has been busy with good threads and links and exclusives etc.

Not to say roaches and chron don't deserve it because they certaintly are knowledge heads when it comes to hip-hop no doubt in the world of that. But this is a yearly award right? Well how does someone who's posted perhaps 2 weeks worth of threads in the last year in the Streethop forum beat-out someone who's posted on a daily basis?

Im pretty sure this is the reason why Rukas chose not to do an award system anymore. It's nothing more then a popularity contest. Ohwell whatever.

Well put it this way, Im always in Streethop and I never see you either. Thats not to say you haven't posted heaps through-out the year which is exactly the same as the goymz situation. Roaches/Chron could drop 3 threads in one year and they'd still win it. Why? because that's how everyone know's them by, as being massive hip-hop heads regardless of the fact they posted nothing to actually be considered for the award. Half the people that vote rarely go into the forums that people get nominated from anyways. Like I said popularity contest.

Im not bashing the organizers of the awards but surely y'all would've known it would have turned out like this? Members with credit win, dude's/dudette's who post alot of say quality threads but don't clown in Our Block get no recognition. Lol.

This is an awards of the people.

I agree with you. Not everyone who should be on there is, and not everyone who is on there should be, but that's who was chosen.

Just look at the Sports Award and nominations. People were getting nominated just because of all the World Cup stuff. Bank Robber and I have personally kept that forum going for 2 years now. If one of us doesn't win it because of people flocking to it for one event, it's a travesty.

We have tons of active members, but few took the time to voice their opinions in the nominations. Blame everyone for being lazy if you don't like it.

You were complaining that its linx! wasn't in the hip-hop head poll and then complain that roaches was on there despite his lack of posts this year... roaches posted about the same amount as linx if not more this year.

Polls stay open an entire month.
End of month, polls close. Bada bing bada bing a clear winner who can be any random person from those 10 chosen.

It's far too late now obviously, next year hopefully some mods can work with Amerika'zMost.

And Amerika'zMost, judging by your replies you seem to think Im taking this personally. Im not, im laughing my ass off actually due to what I knew would happened and what Ruk told me last year as to why he doesn't do these awards no more (aside from being busy etc.)

Im trying to help you not argue with you, so next time we can get a fairer system up. All props for your time and energies spent on the awards this year no doubt. Props where they are due :thumb:. It just seems these weren't thoroughly thought through, I was hoping to get newer members win so one day they replace the likes of Sicc, roaches, 7 Syns, Amara, Pittsey etc on the board. But the same people will just win.

The problem is with choosing who gets the nominations. I think if people took the time to nominate the members they thought should run, then we wouldn't be having such a problem.


If there would be more people willing to work with me and discuss who should be eligible, I'd be down. A committe of active, contributing members would be the best way to go, no doubt. But that wasn't the case, and I had to rely on the people who didn't find it too much trouble to type in two names.
