City shut down after threat
From correspondents in London

POLICE are evacuating thousands of people from the centre of Britain's second largest city, Birmingham, after receiving a threat.

"West Midlands police ... are now closing down the Broad Street entertainment zone and asking people to leave Birmingham town centre and go home," said a police spokesman.

"Our inquiries are ongoing. We're not going into the nature of the threat."

Roads were being blocked.

A West Midlands Police spokeswoman said the inner ring road to the city was closed off at 8pm (5am AEST) and an order given for bars to be evacuated in the Broad Street entertainment zone 40 minutes later.

I'm not saying this is a hoax but were gonna get loads of them now.

True, but the thing that pisses me off is we're going to take each of them so much more serious now.

And, we (or you) shouldn't? Trust me, it's better to be safe than dead.

We shouldn't, no.

How many attacks has Britain suffered in the last decade?

Everything's going to be heightened now though, finger on the panic button as it were.

Besides being a horrible way to live, it costs money & is a severe inconvenience - yes, I recognize dying to be the biggest inconvenience of all.

so if theres a bomb threat or a warning of a bomb, people should roam that area as if there was no problem?

explain thyself of be smighted mofo

I dunno what haunted's exact view is, but mine is to be as we were before. You might say "well, look where that got us" but the police were overstretched at the time, it was a unqiue situation imo.

Just go on with your life. If theres a bomb threat threatening Oakland im not gonna stay in my house crying and shit. Im just gonna go out and do what i had planned to do. Sure if there is a bomb threat at a certain location i probably wouldnt go there.

i half agree with what your saying but things do need to be changed, i heard there gonna be putting these new things at train stations, like a sort of thing that will see if a person is carry any weapons, etc, i think this is a good thing, more security means more saftey(although i dont agree with things like ID cards)

This is very interesting. There's a state here in the USA called Alabama. Alabama has a city named Birmingham. Back in the day, Birmingham was known as "Bombing-ham." That's because the KKK would constantly blow things up there. Can you believe the coincidence?

This rumor could very well be true...remember Bombing-ham.

I dont think a real bomber with the intention of causing destruction would tip authorites off before carrying out his plans. This smells like a job of a troubled kid

my only question about this whole thing is that how can only 38 people have been killed? you'd think that 4 bombs would have done more damage. i think the media might be keeping the death toll a bit quiet so it helps people stay calm.
