funny that these 2 threads came to light. to be honest american police use way too much force, firstly patrol cops don't need guns, if the situations requires guns then call for swat. its the fact that patrol cops are carrying firearm gives them some sort of god like feeling over people and think they are "the law". if those cops weren't packing, they wouldnt have the balls to do that, but because they carry a gun they know they can get away with it.
they need guns because they come in contact with criminals that have guns. calling swat is like calling 911 they are minutes away when your gun is only seconds away.
i don't think it is fair to generalize all patarol officer in the law enforcement community this way that you have. sure there are always those that are corrupt or do something bad, but they represent the smallest percent of LEO's. I have to deal with LEO's from a local, state, and federal level on a daily basis in my job and I can say that the vast majority are nice and honest people.
it is always the bad ones, the 1% of the LEO community, that make the headlines for negative reasons
^That's very true. I believe, at least in Canada, they have rigorous psychological tests you have to go through to make sure you are not one of those gun toting idiots who would abuse their power.

British criminals can carry guns, but the UK police don't carry guns, they never have and never will. American police use it as an object of fear and not an object of defense. Now Im not saying ALL cops are like that, Im just explaining why these things happen, just look at the thread "DP Dont Call Me Papi", there is absolutly no need for him to pull out his gun, especially at a close range like that.
I've seen both threads and I don't care what you say but cops in U.S. like to show off and they most of the time do things that are unnecessary. They want to make sure that they let the people know they are in charge of streets. While that might be ok because it creates sense of fear to criminals (just like how dogs piss and leave trails to let other dogs know they are the dominant ones), but it is just excessive.
Like for example, while driving I see a cop pull over a driver for some traffic violation. The street was very narrow, it was a two way but it was a narrow street. He pulled the driver over and the cop parked the car in a way so that no cars could drive from either side. He blocked the two way traffic so that he could write the ticket. All the cars just stopped and everybody was waiting for the cop to finished writing him a ticket.
Another one, I was getting ready to leave the precinct I was in and I'm looking for the exit door to leave. Theres all bunch of rooms and there was no exit sign so I'm looking and looking. I went to this direction thinking this is the exit door and theres like 5-6 cops standing just laughing and shit and as soon as I approached the door, they all went like 'woooo......easy there...'' or some shit. I'm like what? I need to get out wheres the exit? And then this cop comes out of nowhere and sees me standing close to this door that I thought was a exit and goes ''hey hey do you work? what you doing there?" so they all start laughing as if anything was funny.

Are you kidding me. Rush to it like they rushed the car and started beating the people. One of the cops even started hitting the back of the car at first like he couldn't wait to break a few ribs, it's like wtf. I want to know the details but damn, overly excessive.
Could you imagine if Cops didn't carry guns, mother fuckers would walk around like it was a constant riot. They have enough trouble with guns and you want to take em away, please. Stop the comparisons between the US and the UK too, like we're the same. Of course your cops dont carry guns, you guys dont have nearly the amount of guns we have. We probably have more illegal firearms than you have firearms. I'd like to see your police come do our jobs, run up with a billy club like it's gonna deter someone. I can run from that, matter of fact I can fight back to that. Aint no way in hell Imma try to be Superman and dodge bullets, shit people fight our police with guns anyway and you want to tell them not to carry em. We're some violent ass people, if our cops didnt have guns we'd probably go crazy for a while.
