Some of you will of heard of him, he's the on - off boyfriend of Kate Moss at the moment. He is also Addicted to heroin and crack.

What i want to know is, what are your views on him? The majority of people have a view on him, but have not heard his music.

A quick background:
He was in a band called The Libertines (the best band to come out of england since Oasis), then due to His addictions was ejected from the band. He is allowed back in when he kicks the drugs, yet he says he'll kick the drugs when they let him back. To some of you this may seem unfair, however, this is the second time he has been ejected. The first time was due to drugs, He also broke into Carl Barat's flat and robbed it. Carl Barat was his best friend and co-founder of The Libertines with Pete. He was sent to prison for this crime, then on the day of his release, the only person to meet him at the gates was Carl. From here they recorded the second Libertines album. Pete then tried rehab 3 times, all paid for by the band and management, and all 3 times he didnt stay for his full treatment. Carl and pete have hardly spoke since Last summer.

Since then Pete has started his own band called Babyshambles (You may of heard 'Killamangiro'). At the moment Pete is clean, due to court order. He is out on bail for Blackmail and assault.

The thing is because he is a junkie, no one takes him seriously. Yes he does typical junkie things like dissappearing, and lying etc but the man is a musical genious. He is treated unfairly by the tabloids because he is a junkie. If they took the time to report on his music like they do on his life and addictions then everyone would of been on about him (& The Libertines) for ages.

The man holds gigs in his flat, basically anywhere he can really, posts on his own message forum, releases acoustic demos of songs on the internet (There is only 2 libertines albums & 2 babyshambles singles released, yet i have well over 50 different songs from him).

Not only is he a musician he is very clever, he has something like 11A* GCSE's aswell. He also writes poetry.

Some songs to download (again only acoustic but very good):

Back From The Dead

The Whole World Is Our Playground

Curtain Call

Never Never

Albion

I Love You (But You're Green)

Agreed. I think they're very overrated, and I think Pete's put up on a pedestal like Kurt Cobain was. If he dies, he'll be considered a legend. If he kicks the habit, a lot of people will lose interest in him.

I agree what your saying, but even if he died he would not be a considered a legend, he aint done anything, he only started getting his mug in the papers a couple of months back for giving kate moss one.

I dont agree with what you are saying about the legend thing. There was massive interest in The Libertines before their first album even came out. There was massive interest in pete before he even had his habit. If he does stay clean the only people who will lose interest in him is the fucking tabloids. I wont change my views on him, neither will my brother, my mum or dad (yes my whole fam likes the libs!) He's proved that he's not like Cobain, he's a legend in his own right. He still wrote good music before his addictions.

Also, stefanwzyga, if he did die, people would look at all the songs he wrote, the poems, the way he (& the Libertines) broke down the barrier between fans and the band (i've sat in a bar while the band where there. there was no security, no 'i'm famous get these people away from me and close the bar' it was just as if they was normal people, which they try to prove, everyone is).
People would realise he was more than just a junkie who was in the papers for a few months through his relationship with Kate Moss.

Im sure some would see him as a bit of a legend if he died, they do that with everyone who dies young, but to sit in a bar listening to a band with no security dont mean anything, i might be wrong but the libertines aint a big band, not back then or now! im gonna listen to there cd again, but when i herd it i did'nt think they had anything, but each to there own.

how is pete doherty anything like kurt cobain? kurt cobain had talent, pete doherty isn't even good enough to lick his shoes. the libertines were shit, they didn't have a consistent enough history to be thought of as legends and doherty's new band babyshambles is known only for his junkie behaviour. i have no respect for his music and even less respect for him as a person

I quite like one song, but he is only famous cos he is a smack head and he goes out with kate moss. i personally think he is a moron, he breaks into peoples houses to rob stuff and feed his herion habbit, hardly a great role model. but yeah i like a couple of songs he has done, can't for the life of me remember what they are called though
