Peace corps..

what do you mean die easily?

Like, being peaceful, in war zones tends to make you an easy target. Not even joking, all types of peace corps - while granted some immunity - find that they have a reasonably high chance of dying.

I dont know about other countries, but the US peace corps dont go into hostile territory.. many of them are scattered throughout third world developing countries that are oblivious to the wars going on ... thats why i want to join.. to get away.

Yeah, true, I know there are those that aren't in war zones.

As for them, I don't know.

that is true only if you have an American flag stitched on the shoulder of your uniform, put a canadian one on there and i gaurantee you you're much less likely to be shot in the head lol

edit: im talking about the ones that go into hostile territory

i'm kind of glad you made this thread.

i've been kicking around the idea for the past year or so. i actually really want to join. but as far as i can tell from the website(usa) they want people who have degrees. since that is something that i do not have right now, i'm not sure if they would take me. i just think it was would be interesting and i would actually learn alot, and be able to help people that really need it.

ive never met anyone that has done it, doubt anyone on this board has either.

Well, it's not like you go through basic training or anything, when you join the Peace Corps or wear a uniform. All you're doing is volunteer work in another country for two years. You could do that on your own if you wanted to, but the Peace Corps is able to arrange it better for you. And, of course, you need to have skills in areas that are important to the local population, such as teaching, business, medical, or farming skills. Help local ppl start and run a business. Work in a local hospital. Teach English, etc. It's no different than volunteer work in your own country, except it's another country.

What it's like depends on what country and what you're doing there.
