PayPal Litigation Lawsuit

Anyone remember the email they got from PayPal way back, somewhere around 2 years ago? The time stamp on the email I got is Saturday, July 31, 2004.

The email started out with:

IF YOU OPENED A PAYPAL ACCOUNT BETWEEN OCTOBER 1999 AND JANUARY 2004, YOU MAY BE ENTITLED TO A PAYMENT FROM A CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT.

An interesting highlight in the letter wrote:

Under the settlement, PayPal will pay $9.25 million into a settlement fund, to be held in an interest-bearing account. The fund will be used (1) to make payments to class members who submit valid claims before the claims deadline; (2) to pay certain costs of giving notice to the Class and of settlement administration, as approved by the Court; and (3) to pay attorneys' fees and expenses to Class Counsel in the amount awarded by the Court.... If the Court awards attorneys' fees and costs in the amount requested, Class Counsel estimate that there will be approximately $4.3 million to pay the claims of Dispute Resolution Claimants. Half of the money allocated to Dispute Resolution Claimants will be allocated to pay Short Form Claimants (the "Short Form Fund"). The other half will be allocated to pay Long Form Claimants (the "Long Form Fund").

So anyway, I filled out a Long Form Claim. This was when I had some ordeals with PayPal that really pissed me off. I couldn't have been happier to learn that they were being sued for $9.25 million, so most of the financial damages that I claimed on my form were exaggerated, but it serves them right. I'm pretty happy I did it now, and I want to see if anyone on this site is as happy as I am.

It took a long time (since July, 2004), but I finally got my check for $495.00 (minus $1.00 for mailing fee)! Not a bad peice of dough to hit you in the mail out of the blue.

Anyone else happy they filled a claim? If you did, but didn't get your share yet, check out the official website at: http://www.settlement4onlinepayments.com/

I got a check for $45 or something, and I thought it was a standard reparation payment for everyone. How did you get almost $500?
he didnt.everyone got about 50 bucks, and there was like 1.5 mill left that was split up between tens of thousands of people who had previously filed claims against scammers who had depleted their accounts.i think they got an extra 27 dollars for a total of $77

Yeah, I figured he was bullshitting. Anyhow, I've gotten fucked over so many times from people doing chargebacks via their credit card companies. No matter if I had a tracking number or not, Paypal would still take the money out of my bank account. I lost over $1000 on one transaction back in 2004.

!!!!!???? What were the conditions for receiving a piece of the pie???

This might answer your question, especially the bottom part of it. It's a quote from the original email that we all got.

4. HOW DO I KNOW IF I AM PART OF THE SETTLEMENT?
On July 12, 2004, Judge Fogel entered an order granting preliminary approval of the settlement and certifying the following class for purposes of the settlement: All Persons who opened a PayPal account during the period from October 1, 1999 through January 31, 2004. Excluded from the class are any judicial officer to whom the lawsuit is assigned; PayPal and any of its affiliates; any current or former employee, officer, or director of PayPal; anyone who resides in Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Germany, Greece, Finland, France, Ireland, Italy, Luxembourg, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, The Netherlands, or United Kingdom; and all persons who timely and validly request exclusion from the class pursuant to this notice.

Thus, if you opened a PayPal account between October 1, 1999 and January 31, 2004, and are not one of the excluded persons listed above, you are a member of the class.

PayPal was found guilty of violating the Electronic Fund Transfer Act ("EFTA"). I guess that's serious business.

It wasn't a standard reparation. There were different classes. Here's a quote from the original email again (the forms don't seem to be at the given site anymore):

To make a claim for payment, please complete one of the claim forms (Statutory Damage Claim Form, Short Claim Form, or Long Claim Form) available on the Internet at https://www.paypal.com/settlement/.

Like I said, I filled out the Long Claim Form. I bet you filled out one of the short ones.

Also, if my memory serves me correctly, there was a check list in the electronic claim form that asked us in which ways we were screwed by PayPal, i.e. "Did PayPal freeze your account?" I don't remember the other items on the check list, but I marked them all. Also, there was a part that asked us to estimate the financial damages that PayPal's violations caused us. That was the part that I exaggerated on. In short, according to my claim, PayPal really owed me a lot.

There may have also been other factors involved, ones that I am unaware of.

so you lied? lol and you're telling the whole internert you did so?

Well I didn't actually lie... unless exaggerating is a lie, then I guess I fibbed a little. Well, there's always forgiveness, plus PayPal really pissed me off, so I just got back what was mine. Also, it's not like anything can be done now, nor can this be used as evidence against me. How can it be proven that this is me, and how can it be proven that I am telling the truth? After all, prince mack already proved I'm lying about the check in the first place, right kids?

prince mack is truly the most unique savant syndrome patient to date. I can hardly imagine what I would do with the autistic super-capability to falsely assume and accuse people of lying without a shred of evidence or support in theory.

You should really let some government facilities study you. I understand they pay a lot of money. Or maybe Hollywood can make a Rainman sequel that's based on you. Although you probably don't need the money anymore, now that you have been awarded a whopping $50 from the PayPal case. Cheers to you mate.

Really? You had it figured the whole time? Because you had me fooled when I read your first post.

You're also a dips***, because all you had to do was file a dispute with your bank, and all your money would have been refunded. You might have lost your PayPal account in the process, but that's hardly worth $1,000, unless you really are that stupid.

Also, that's the danger of accepting money from unconfirmy's. When someone has an unconfirmed address, it means they didn't prove / weren't able to prove that their bank statement is registered to the address that they have on their PayPal account. Processing that would be like processing a credit card face-to-face from a person who can't show ID, or who's ID doesn't match the name on the card.

Well, that's all I have to say. Now onto another topic.

So what are you guys gonna buy with your new found fortunes? Limited Edition Yu-Gi-Oh! cards?

I do get defensive & offensive when retards accuse me of lying without a shred of evidence or support in theory. I'd say more, but I already own you.

i will be forwarding all this to paypal now that you have admitted to defrauding them, and were stupid enough to post a scan of your check with your name on it.let's see what your $500 will do you now.oh yea,i alread copied this whole page so you can delete all you want,it's still here, and paypal can get a court order to get backups from the admin.don't fuck with me

I will let you know when nothing happens. If it were up to PayPal, I wouldn't have this check in the first place. They were court ordered to issue this to me. Try forwarding my message to the judge who made the ruling. I'm sure he'll reverse it when he logs onto a Hip Hop / Tupac fan club website that's full of speculation and no evidence whatsoever. Remember kiddy, there's no evidence I exaggerated on my claim, and the amounts "exaggerated" were estimates to begin with. Go f*** yourself.

Also, your efforts reflect your realization that you've been proven senseless. Stop toying with me, I own you.

beReal = as dumb as the rest of them.

thas crazy i remember when that shit got issued i never filled it out even though i had an account...good job on gettin paid...mack ur juss corny if u did that shiet tryna hate on this guy for gettin a bigger check than u...stop snitchin nigga...paece
