NEW Mitsubish Evolution X brochure!

i dont really like the new look of the evo... i kinda liked the old version better... but oh well.. the impreza looks kinda gay too... i know they're gonna make an sti for the sedan right? all i've seen so far are hatchback shots

I assume that Subaru wants to remain profitable at the moment, hence the lack of funding toward R&D of the WRX and STI, hence the virtual carryover of the drivetrain, minus a few minor tweaks. Evo gets a completely new engine and a completely new dual-clutch transmission, STI gets basically the same 2.5-liter (in the U.S.) with a few extra hp and lb.-ft and the same 6-speed manual. It would probably be too expensive for them to have a wagon and a sedan at launch, especially since most of their development has been for a wagon. Not to say an STI sedan is impossible, but no one has really seen any test mules of it. Plus the wagon would actually have more neutral handling since the greater amount of weight put on the rear axle actually helps balance out the front-to-rear weight ratio.

ah... gotcha... but i think it was the sti sedan that made the impreza famous, right??? i dont see a whole lotta sti wagons around....

still, i wish they made the sti sedan a priority over the wagon.... it just looks better....

^ True, but there are STI versions of some of Subaru's other wagon offerings, like the Forester, in other countries. Also, Subaru probably feels that there is a market for high-performance wagons based on their sales figures of the previous generation WRX wagon, and also seeing how Dodge makes the Magnum SRT-8 and Mercedes makes the C63 AMG wagon and the E55/E63 AMG wagon, all of which are regarded as ass-kicking family haulers. Even Mitsubishi made an Evo wagon (only in Japan). This way, those people who are in the market for an all-around sports car with lots of utility will have no choice but to get an STI... that is, unless Mitsubishi releases an Evolution version of their Sportback concept car (which I wouldn't be surprised is already in the works and is ready for further R&D pending the success of the STI wagon).

yeah, the idea of performance wagons really escapes me... the rs6 that i mentioned elsewhere, the m5 touring, the e class wagon that you're talking about.... i do have that desire from some zip from a car, but lets just say i had a family and i still had the yearning for a performance car and wagon put into one, i dont know what i'd do, but i wouldnt get a wagon, so we'd have to figure an alternative...

just my feelings towards wagons... sure they're roomy, but i dont think the states market would welcome a wagon in this era... i was big during and before the 90's, but now i think the SUV's taken over the US and the US only....

and yeah im lookin at that evo wagon right now and man... its kinda ugly... still has the evo performance so watching you lug your groceries and stuff for 0-60 in under 5 an losing to it is gonna be embarrassing

^ Don't get me wrong, I personally don't like the idea of a wagon version of the high performance cars since it's somewhat odd. But the reality is, there is a small market out there for them, but big enough for it to be profitable to make offerings for them.

SUV sales have been steadily dropping in recent years due to the crazy hike in gas prices here over the past couple years, which is good. It will only increase our supply of gas, improve our air quality, and hopefully decrease the downsides of accidents, as smaller vehicles tend to be easier to maneuver and less deadly than a Ford Excursion plowing into you in the event of shit happening.

But like I said, with cars that start of as econo-mobiles (Evo and STI), it's harder for them to take measure to make the car a 50:50 balanced car, so the wagon counterparts tend to handle a bit more neutral as I have mentioned before, so the wagon guys will always throw that argument out there, along with being able to fit a dog, snowboards or whatever they like to haul around.

yeah... i mean wagons arent all that bad, i just dont understand the m5's and the e63 and i think the S or RS4 wagons out there.... they seem kinda silly...

and i got another thing with those tiny hatches like the impreza and the a3.... those kind piss me off too

Wagons are fun simply because it's a stationwagon with such power. High powered sports coupes? No one's surprised by the power. Fast sedans? Plenty of those. Family cruiser with warp 5? Hilarious. I'd get one if I were rich.

Oh definitely. The new M5 kinda lost the point the original car made. The point was that you'd have supercar performance in an otherwise indistinguishable motor car, but with BMW's new styling and overbadging, even my grandmother could recognize one.

Then there's the point of practicality. A wagon hauls more. And it barely affects the performance. Anyone buying an M5 for looks should be shot, anyway. It's a dreadful looking car. Seriously ugly.

the new 5 series has some looks issues... the previous generation m5s were really nice, imo... still, if i had 120k lying around, i'd get a loaded one not because of the looks, but because its nice that it hits 0-60 in 4.7 or so, but you can still drive it around like to work or parties and such....

There's actually a previous generation M5 that is in my neighborhood, I still think it's a great-looking car without being too flashy, though it's definitely easy to tell that it's not your ordinary 5-Series without getting in anyone's face.

Absolutely. Prev. gen. M5's, and 5-series in general, are much cleaner looking. More grown up. Current Beamers look like they've been styled by a 14 year Taiwanese computer geek that suffers from ADHD.

haha its got way too many lines...the front looks fine, but the back.. eh... they sound nice though.... and im talking about the 550 i heard.... and i think thats what counts more... i thinks its better than its competitors the GS and the E class...

Obviously I'm sure some of you guys have been noticing the slower acceleration times of a pre-production Evo X that Mitsubishi has been letting magazines preview on their road course. What do you guys think about it?
