LONDON - Police briefly sealed off part of central London on Tuesday after smoke was seen billowing from a double-decker bus, but lifted the alert after nothing alarming was found, a spokesman said.
"The incident has just been stood down," said a police spokesman after the alarm centred on a bus near King's Cross station, one of the venues of the deadly suicide bombings last month.
Police shot the bus driver 6 times in the head while he was pinned to the floor of the crowded bus. "He looked Asian," said a police spokesman. "You can't be too sure nowadays." Passengers described the driver as a blond Nordic-type.
