In interviews with leading Italian publications, Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat went into some detail regarding the genesis and operation of Hamas. To Corriere della Sera on Dec. 11, he said,

"We are doing everything possible to stop the violence. But Hamas is a creature of Israel which, at the time of Prime Minister [Yitzhak] Shamir [the late 1980s, when Hamas arose], gave them money and more than 700 institutions, among them schools, universities and mosques. Even [former Israeli Prime Minister Yitzhak] Rabin ended up admitting it, when I charged him with it, in the presence of [Egyptian President Hosni] Mubarak."

it was started and funded by israel...this is old news

i dont think it is to this day,but it should be noted that they could be a asset to israel.....nothing benifits a goverment more than on going war....it push's there agenda

to be honest im not sure on that....ill look into it more and give you an assumption at a later time


as long as there are boogy men are goverments will need us to surrender are right's for "secruity"

Of course they are helping Israel along, since Israel is in a low level combat type situation, they need more arms and more technology. With the Qassam missle threat they need better technology for their Arrow interceptor missles.

Hamas was not "started" by Israel. Their founding charter calls for the murder of all Jews in the region, and the destruction of Israel.

However, they were indeed funded in part by Israel in the 1980s, because Hamas was viewed as an opponent to the PLO, which before Oslo was not negotiating with Israel and was not considered the representative of the Palestinian people by the world. At this point in time, Hamas was not participating in high scale terrorism against Israel. I don't know how much funding Israel was doing either.

So Israel did fund Hamas for awhile before they commenced hostilities on the state. And once Oslo established the Palestinian Authority, their reason for funding Hamas was out the window anyway.

That's a far cry from "supporting" or creating Hamas though. Especially in the context of the current intifada.

they were supporting hamas because it was creating schools and other social buildings for the palestinians.... once they started to do some terrorism as a hobby against israel... the funding stopped.

Hamas was funded by Israel to compete against the PLO, but in almost no time they turned against them.You got the likes of Yahya Ayyash (RIP) who are Hamas members, they gave Israel a hard time alright.
