Iranians want to be like Americans?

I was watching CBS news one late afternoon and something interesting popped up. The East wants to be like the West, more interestingly, the majority is Muslim women. They are caring alot about how they look.

Is there discreet imperialism in our media? The reason Iranians are asking for these Western looks is because of satellite TV from the West. Or do these women have some sort of low self-esteem? Or do they simply think how they look now is not good enough?

Is this a baby step for the future of the Western culture in the East? The American military are pushing forth our government ideals and the media is putting forth the culture.

Maybe this is nothing but I found it interesting. I went to their website and found a link.

Do you believe everything you see on TV? Man, I could make a documentary about how Westerners want to be exactly like Africans. Its almost too easy to manipulate footage these days. Add special effects, throw in a narration, copy and paste footage, twist people's words, and you're done.

Do these people really want to be like Americans? I feel bad for them if they do. There's nothing worse than not being able to create your own identity. The USA suffers from the same thing. There's one blond lady after another simply because being blond is extremely popular.

From what you've seen, its impossible to tell what an entire nation wants to be like. You need to go over to Iran, ask questions, and really connect with the people to see what they're like and what they want to be like. Don't take the words of a journalist. You can't believe anyone these days.

My whole family is Muslim, but we're not Iranians. Believe me, not one single female in my family wants to be anything like the average American woman. If anything, they want to be the opposite, and this is all while we live amongst Americans. My sister becomes pissed whenever she sees people with insecurities and people that can't be themselves.

In summary, be yourself, and don't conclude something from what you've seen on TV.

EDIT: I forgot to add something. I wanted to say that my sisters care a lot about their looks and everything. They're always putting something on, and make sure there's nothing wrong with their skin and everything. That's just girls, though.

i can relate.
besides, I used to be like a cliched American teenager type, now im the total opposite, somone ,make a documentary about me man :) .

pure bullshit.
First of all, you would have define "american". What is american? eatin burgers? to care about how you look, is that american? to invade countries that don't share your view, is that american? What is american then, there has to be a definition if anyone wants to be like them.

Second, yeah right, all arabs love america, that's why there ain't no hate at all.

last but not least: statments like these *the hate us for our freedom // they wanna be like us** makes the rest of the world hate the US these days. I call it arrogance.

I'm persian and i went to iran like 3 years ago.
Many people had the strips on their noses even though they never got a niose job.
Reason being, having had a nose job means you have money thus attracting the opposite sex. Very sad if you ask me.

bahahahah, irony being, that 90% of the people of the world would walk around with their dicks hanging out of their zippers IF it increased their chances of getting layed. or do anything to get their dick up...

what you trying to say un, what's exactly is your point?!!!

I hope none of yall is jumping on me lol
This is something that I found interesting and thought I share. I asked these hypothetical questions because these are the first things that jumped in my mind. I could really careless about what Iranians are doing.

I personally believe that Iranians are not trying to be like Americans but simply see something that they like i.e. noses via satellite that they rarely seen before. Like your a kid going to your local toy store and you see a toy you like. But then sooner or later you go to a toy store in another city and it has even better toys. That is all it is to me. Their world was just opened up a little, which is good in some ways.

^ i disagree with your observation.
The_One, im persian too and i know that alot of people there are getting nose jobs. i dont think its to get layed, the people that ive heard and know who got one got it because their nose was either too big or had bumbs, etc.
