k right now i got win 98 installed on my pc but i now got an xp disc with a serial im goin to install, but im not sure what to do how do i get rid of 98 os and do i just pop in the xp disc and follow the instructions

format your harddrive in DOS and pop the xp cd in, you can find easy guides from google etc. Or Illumanittle or somebody else in here will help you. I would but I have to go to army like in 5mins

well i just popped the cd in and installed xp but now all my files from win98 are in my documents on xp. i dont want the the win98 file how do i get rid of it and is it bad to have it like that

cuz i still have all my files from windows 98

Just back that data up with a CD or DVD. Or just tell WinXP to install over 98, instead of a clean install, that way it won't delete your files.

Use "clean install" or "format hd" I forget which one it is when installing windows xp all of win 98 files and folders will go away.

It won't matter anyway, a XP computer isn't gonna read from a 98 folder, so he's sorted in a certain respect.

You shoulda ran DOS and typed in format c:, then installed xp from here.

what can i do from here tho, any ways of getting rid of it. cuz im sure i had hella viruses on 98

Format your PC for crying out loud. If you can't be arsed direct a virus scan to your win 98 folder to see if it's full of virus'.

Start your computer on DOS and type "format c: (or the disc you want to format)"
