It's starting to get a little sunny where I am and the weather makes me want to buy a new car.

I got a slightly tuned 02 Subaru Impreza WRX, and I wanna trade it in for a Jaguar XK8, coupe or convertable. What do ya reckon? Should I?

I just went down the Jaguar garage. And I don't really like the interior of the Jag. The "wood" on the dash is really plasticy and just looks a bit shitty for such an expensive car. Don't want a beemer, apart from maybe the 6 series, they're too common, like the Subaru.

So now I'm gonna look at 911's or get a Golf for the week (work etc) and import a Dodge Charger for a project car. Or get an old 348ts Ferrari for weekends, but that will stretch my budget to more than I can really afford. Can anyone say Huge Loan!!!


Any ideas?

Importing is mucho expensivo i guess. Not to mention the time you'd need to pull our for a project. But if you'd end up with, say, a fully functional Charger, then you're the man. No one in the UK is gonna have something like that (well, apart from a few others perhaps). Imagine seeing some wanker kid with a civic (with mandatory gargantuan exhaust) at a traffic light and then pulling up in a burbling 6 litre muscle car

It'd definitely be the coolest car, but gotta spend a lot of time (and dough) on that.

I'd opt for a Skyline. I believe they import em into the UK, i'm a sucker for them cars. Utter performance and good looks too, plus it's practical. But i guess you dont want a japanese powerturbo machine anymore since you're doing the Impreza away.

My budget depends on how much I get for my Impreza. They aren't selling very well at the moment and I'm gonna lose at least $20,000 on it. As I bought it for the equivilent of $40,000 and spent $15,000 on it, the most I'll get back is about $28,000.
With that in mind I'm hoping to spend $70,000 on 1 car, or possibly 2. That leaves me still pretty flush to waste a lotta money on drink, drugs and strippers every month.
But if I decide to go the whole hog, and buy a Jag or a 911 or the weekend ferrari, I can get more, but means a largish loan.

I don't want a skyline, for the reason you stated. And there's a shit load of Jap cars already parked in the car park at work. The people I work with have Evo's, Skylines's, Impreza's, 350Z's, RX8's. etc.

So with that in mind and what you added, I'm definately up for the charger. The only problem is the price of petrol in the UK, and the road tax, plus the insurances. I am paying almost $2 a litre for super unleaded. Plus I also run a motorbike, but compared to a car that's dirt cheap anyway.

If I get the charger, I'll buy a diesel golf as a runaround as it's cheaper insurance, tax and petrol. And then get the charger for weekends / summer. Thing is I live in a flat, so I'll have to store it at my mums, I've already taken over the garage so it won't take too much effort to persuade her. She'll be well chuffed.


Definately thinking I'll go the charger route. You're comments have swayed me. Just need to sell my Japanese turbo'd family car now.

Diesel Golf as a daily driver is an excellent idea. It'll sure make up for the gas guzzler on the other hand . Car itself is cheap too.

Very nice. Yeah, as far as monthly costs etc it'll be cheaper than the Subaru and with a diesel golf or something it won't cost you that much more in total.

If you got a 70k budget, say you spend like 10k to 15k on a simple car for daily business. Nothing flasy or expensive, but no bucket either. That leaves you a whole load of money to aquire something nice. I'm not an expert on US charger prices, but i'd guess they'd cost around, boh, 20k for a model in decent condition. Tops. Even though they're getting rare, they're old cars. THat leaves a lot of cash to import it and get it nice and shiny.


Quick loook on US E-bay and it shows that Chargers usually range from like 5k for project cars that need a lot of work to 25k for a model in near-show-room condition. So if you want a machine that still need some attention i guess you'll be spending anywhere from 10 to 20k on it.

Looks like you'll spend less than the Sub. in total i'm guessing. You might even want to consider putting a really big block in it

Yeah i'd definitely be interested in the progress. It's shame people nowadays dont pay big muscle cars the respect they deserve. Every kid wants something exotic or japanese and while they're all great cars, nuttin puts such a big smile on your face as a big blocked beast. Much props to all the project peeps out there that keeps such cars on the road.
