^^ No it's not. It's completely acceptable to start a sentence with and.

Yes, it's completely acceptable to begin a sentence with the words and, but, nor, and or. Just do so sparingly if you are writing something more formal, since it gives your writing a more informal tone. But it's a style thing, not a rule thing.

However, DON'T start your sentence with the word You. It usually makes the other person feel accused and defensive. j/p

Not starting a sentence with 'and' or 'but' is just something they tell you in primary school & in the early years of secondary school to stop kids being complacent with their sentence structure.

Once you're a big boy, you too can start a sentence with 'and' or 'but'

I don't what you meant by 'resume' but most people think that a 'resume' is a submittance of qualifications in seeking employment. Work place discrimination is a sueable offence. Nothing to do with publishers.

And Jokeys statement that sentences beginning with And, But etc should be few seems right.
