Technology IGN's Top 25 Video Game Consoles of all time

I think that's why I loved the Mega Drive and Dreamcast so much. They did an amazing job of porting arcade games to home use.

Many Mega Drive classics started off as being arcade games, and same with Dreamcast. In fact IIRC the chipset of the Dreamcast was based on some Sega arcade unit hardware. That's why things like Soul Calibur and House of the Dead worked so flawlessly on it.

Yeah that's what I used to like Dreamcast for too. However some arcade classics were out way before we had Mega Drive here.
I remember that Arcade games on NES really sucked. I couldn't stand street fighter or mortal kombat on that one though I spend a lot of time playing them on arcades.

PS2 got boring quickly......except for multiplayer, and even that was pretty fail because it only had 2 controller ports. N64 and Dreamcast had 4.

PS2 was boring though it had some great games. I always thought that Xbox was way better and couldn't understand why PS2 was so popular. Most games came out for both consoles
and PS2 only had a few good exclusives while Xbox had way superior graphics and processor (733mhz vs. 294mhz in ps2 lmao) had 4 controller ports, a 10gb hard drive which was a lot at that time, internet access and xbox live in standard and it was less than 10% more expensive.

For sure Xbox shat on the PS2. I never had a PS2 myself, I had an xbox.

But for a couple of years my sister and her boyfriend lived with me and he had a PS2 so I played it a fair amount.

Xbox pwned it.

To be honest, after the dreamcast... the only thing I play on consoles is sport games, the rest reaks of fucking crap if you ask me.

First person shooters on a console? laughable. PC gaming owns at that.

Strategy games? PC gaming rapes that also

Dreamcast was the last of the epic gaming consoles, now the shit out there tries to imitate PC gaming, but will always fail... cause PCs rapes a box full of crap with a bonus blue-ray.

I didnt care too much for the orginal Xbox tbh. Xbox 360 is a big improvment on it. PS2 was better than it. It had better games.

There are great FPS on both consoles. Bioshock, COD series , Far Cry 2 etc. Your not gonna notice a huge difference between the FPS that are common to the PC and consoles unless you have a top end PC. You can even get a great version of the best FPS ever created on the consoles as part of the Orange Box-Half Life 2. I love playing FPS on xbox 360. the controller is ideal for them imo.

Id actually argue that nothing particularly special has been released excluisivley to PC recently.

Strategy games suck balls as far as im concered lol. My least favourite genre along with fighting games.

Generally all the FPS shooters you named came out on PC way before they went on console for the most part..

World of Warcraft is PC exclusive, practically everything Blizzard releases is PC/Mac exclusive... which is good, cause their games is like crack in a box. lol

Mother fuck, Bayern just scored....

xbox was beggin ps2 for gta. c'mon. all xbox had was halo and some lame shooter games. the controllers and controller instructions ingame couldn't even be read most of time.

Most games came out for both consoles. All Gta games were out on both and personally even though the original xbox controller was way worse than the 360 one it was still an improvement over ps2's dual shock imo.
The only good ps2 exclusives I enjoyed were MGS series, Final fantasy series and Yakuza series. I thought that I'm missing a lot on them but then playing ps2 after playing xbox felt like playing an earlier gen system.
I used to love Dead or alive. The graphics on that one were groundbreaking. The whole fighting system, counters etc. were so advanced that I never understood why Tekken was that much more popular. And Dead or alive 3 was one of the first games hitting the original xbox.

Bioshock came out on Xbox 360 first. The rest i mentioned apart from Half Life 2, got released on all formats around the same time,

Either I'm too old to still like PC games or you're right. I upgrade my pc all the time to keep it fresh and good for everything new but come to think of it I barely even play any games on it. I think the last game I played was Red Alert 3 almost a year ago lol
And I like strategy games but there are not many good games in that genre.
Starcraft 2 and C&C 4 are coming in 2010 I think and I'm looking forward to them.
