Why is it like this, when I happen to watch television whether it be normal t.v, sky digital or a film or wat ever when people brush there teeth in the morning, then after they have there breakfast. What is the point, I eat first in the morning then brush my teeth, surely that makes more sense. Do people on TB brush there teeth as soon as they wake up, before having anything to eat.

Brushing your teeth before you eat breakfast can help to prevent the dental erosion that can wear away your teeth.

A recent survey by the Foundation found that over three-quarters of people ( 81%) were unaware that brushing their teeth after eating acidic food and drink can damage their teeth permanently.

Acidic foods and drinks, such as oranges, grapefruit and fruit juices that are often eaten at breakfast time, soften the enamel on your teeth.

Brushing immediately afterward wears the enamel away, and can cause dental erosion, which may lead to pain and extreme sensitivity in the teeth, and also lead to cosmetic problems.
Thats what the British dental foundation says, so I guess we shud all be brushing em before breakfast.

yeah but the brits also drive on the wrong side of the way so with that being said I suggest we keep brushin our teeth after breakfast :o

When I lived in Holland, I found out that some people actually brushed after eating and not before. Disgusting.

How can you sleep for hours and hours, and put food in your mouth before brushing? If you have some food left in your mouth after eating, drink. Drink to flush out everything, and floss if you need it.

Eating before brushing is like going into a crowd before showering. The same people that say that you should brush after are the ones that should believe you should shower after meeting people, because you have to get rid of all the dirt you may have come in contact with.

I can see where you guys are coming from, but can you simply flush the food particles with a glass of water, and chew gum for the mouth odor?

I can see what Pennypacker's saying but when you started talking about the following I was clueless.

I think you should eat then brush but I'm not some kind of obsessive who needs to wash as soon as I've met some people.

Wash once a day as a standard & that count can be raised whenever I see fit - I fail to see the connection between this & brushing my teeth....

^^^...What I meant is that those that are for "brush after eat" are those that believe there's no the mouth is clean until one eats. Therefore, in some way, everyone is clean until we come into contact with others, in their logic. I just used a strange analogy.

I see it the other way around...the mouth is not clean right out of bed, and therefore, you gotta brush.

I know my mouth is not clean when I come out of bed but if I were to brush then eat, it would be unclean once again & I would have to brush again.

As it is, I get out of bed & it's unclean, remains unclean while I eat, & is cleaned once I'm finished eating & brush my teeth.

I use to be a 'eat before brush'...but then I was told that during the night due to all the saliva just remaining in your mouth, bacteria builds up, and you brush your teeth to kill the bacteria so you don't ingest it when you eat.

Whether it was true or not, it was enough to get me, a borderline-OCD person, to brush as soon as I wake up...and now quite frequently throughout the day if I'm at home.

That seems to be the best way, surely it makes sense to clean after you eat in the morning.

And maybe HITEMUP21 has a valid point too. maybe a poll needs to take effect and people can vote, then maybe I will go with the majority, lol

But as somebody said earlier brushing after food can be bad because of the acids from the food you eat break down the gums or something, then brushing makes it worse. But if you dont brush after you eat your gonna have bits of food in your mouth all day, which cannot be too clever for you either.

A tuff choice.

lol interesting thread... if I'm gonna eat at home I have breakfast first (this is usually at weekends) but through the week I usually grab breakfast at work so I brush my teeth before I eat. Although we have those lil toothbrushes that you chew and spit out after eating so its all good :D

:)

So really, it all comes down to if you eat at work etc or when you get up. The people that have spoke about this seem to do different things all depending on the situation. :)

Also I am not sure whether its a good idea to brush b4 and after because that could cause too much damadge.

So I guess we have to make our minds up. lol

surprisingly this thread has had some good discussions from people, if only all threads had good vibes then everybody would get along.
