Someone just came in my office bc he lost his "cod" and I did not understand a damn thing he said. I feel retarded...accents sound like a foreign language to me. I have to squint my eyes like that is helping me hear better. :(

Well, it's quite possible that the accent might be as the result of a native foreign language. But, if a Boston(ian) talked to you or a New-Yorker and you didn't understand, then u iz laik idiotwoman.

It wasn't american...it sounded like south african or something.

LMFAO @ South African!

Can you really tell the difference between a Nigerian and a Southern African accent?

Lol no but I worked with someone named Dyke from South Africa and it sounded like him. I watched Blood Diamond hizzle ok? leave me alone. :(

Most speak Zulu, Xhosa and Afrikaans which are romanised languages, which means they use romanised phonics when speaking. There are no clicking sounds in romanised phonics as they are the same phonics we use in the English language.

wrong man, both xhosa and zulu have click sounds...in fact the actual word "xhosa" has a click in it.

I was down in the supermarket today buying some clothes, and the woman who served me down there was very talkative, but she obviously wasn't local and had an accent. I had to ask her a couple of times to repeat herself so that I could understand what she wanted to get her tongue around and talk to me about.

Well obviously he lost a fish.

Maybe he was referring to a "code"?

No...he lost his cod bc I had to give him a new cod. (card) I asked him if he wanted me to CHECK his old cod. He said "Nooo how you gonna TAKE me old cod if I don't got it." I didn't repeat myself bc it was obvious we couldn't understand each other.

I gave him the new cod and let him be on his way.
