Are you kidding? That's my idea of success and something to which i am striving for.
But, seriously, we "fail" at life when we do not value what we have and who we are. So that's a failure without any kind of goals not reached. If we're out of touch with who we really are, then everything we do is influenced by the conditioned mind. We look for the rewards we can gain, and aren't motivated by the sheer joy of doing something. This often stems from being raised in a family where we weren't accepted for who we really were. We were made to feel that something we do is the key to acceptance and love. That then becomes our reality, and it can manifest all through life in self-doubt, low self-esteem, and the inability to try anything where we risk not succeeding.
We need to understand that learning is more important than succeeding, although not many people seem to think so. Think of all the people who get their college and graduate degrees and go out to succeed without really learning anything. Many of these people spend more than what they earn, living beyond their means in order to show that they are somebody. Their educational, career, and monetary successes teach them nothing. As a result, when they lose any part of it, their whole self-image is diminished.
What if they went out to learn first? Then success would not be important and learning would be. If success occurred it would merely be as a side effect of learning. When I do something, it's not important that I succeed, because what I'm most interested in is what I can learn. So I can run a race and feel just as good coming in last as first. Because every time I train and every time I race, I'm learning.
Try getting up in the morning with the attitude of wanting to learn. That will put your mind and emotions in a whole new stance toward that day's activities. If you're only interested in succeeding, you may reach your goal, you may have a conquest of some type, but what will you have learned in the process? Nothng. It will be a hollow success, and you yourself will still feel empty. As a result you'll create more and more goals. You'll never have achieved enough.
When you get into the learning mode, by contrast, you can never feel a failure for you will be fulfilled by the learning process.
