Simple question really. How do you share your mp3s online? I don't really mean what program you use or who you share your music with, I mean what kind of "rules" do you have? I am asking this because I ran into an idiot today who was just a fucking idiot about it. I respect people like Dante and the others who actually PAY to get the rare Pac stuff and choose not to share, but when you set ridiculous ass rules ..it's going too far.

Let me explain. I see the kid on a forum and since I am on dialup and cannot just download huge files from yousendit links, I asked if he could add me on slsk so I could download some shit. He says ok and gives me his name, so I add him and I catch him on today. I ask him if he added me so I could cop some music and I let him know that I added him to my list and he could download all the music he wanted. He then says he only trades music and he added me, but put me on download ban. I guess that means I am on his list, but I can't actually download anything from him unless he finds something he wants to download from me. Meaning if I wanted to download sayy.. 5 albums, I would have to have 5 albums he wants. Is that not fucking ridiculous? If you like music, you should spread it around as much as possible for others to enjoy, right? That's how I always looked at it and always will look at it.

Do any of you have dumbshit rules like this when you share music with other people? I don't think it's wrong to just trade music, but to go that far is just fucking lame. I am on dialup and I download/share music like there's no tomorrow. For me to tell this dude that he can download whatever he wants and him to basically come at me with a bunch of bullshit just made me laugh at him and tell him off. He went on to say I was "crying" about it, but that's what people say when they know you're right and they're wrong.

Bottom line... If you really enjoy music, share it with people and stop being so lame about it. I love music like nothing else and I REALLY enjoy giving music to other people to see how they enjoy it and how they react. Stop worrying about your damn net props and just share music.

Thoughts? :thumb:

i'm not sure, don't really have any rules. tupac is "important to me". yeah that sounds gay, but you know what i mean. i don't easily share my own tupac rips with people. actually i never do, really. other music that to me is "less" important i have no problem sharing. that's a bogus attitude, i know, but that's how i do it. i'm cheap.

i used to go to a board, and we listed all the albums we had and we shared by that, no trades or shit like that, we were true e-brothers :D, if i needed something they would nbe there, and vice versa, that how i share my shit.....

peace

it's easier to go track by track on a p2p unless you have site access. well i take it back, it's easier to buy than download (and you know you're not getting some reencode horseshit), but if you must dl, i'd use limewire or something like it. best bet it to learn irc and get to know people. eventually you might get dump access, but probably not on a dialup connect.

I agree 100% with this.

I listen to numerous different types of music and I know so many amazing artists that not many other people know about.

If I have something that I feel that other people will REALLY enjoy, I spread the word and the love. Cause I know if someone had a new group that I wanted to check out, I'd be grateful if they let me download off of them.

Music is meant to shared, not traded for.

This kid is an obvious goon.. I'd forget about him all together

Peace

i use slkseek as well. i dont have DL rules really. my folders are open to be browsed, you see something dope, go for it.

after all, its music sharing imo

I knew people would agree with me, the kid was a fucking loser. I know alot of different programs (including IRC, Dante), but it's not really about that. It's just about people going overboard when it comes to sharing music.

I don't, really. I'm more than happy to hook up somebody when they need help, but I dont put it out there.

I dont use any download programs anymore because i dont have any music on my computer anymore. I used dc++ and i would leave the program on all the time when im on the computer even when I wasnt using it so other people download it. I had alot of underground bay shit that was hard to get even if you were in the bay so i just shared.

Oh yea i would suggest you check out dc++ its like soulseek but bigger and I always got faster downloads. The only problem is they dont really have that much hubs(like chats in soulseek) so if you are looking for less common stuff or whatever some time its not as easy to find.

i was ordered to have my lawyer remit a list of all persons i shared music with and from whom i had received some. after some bargaining i was given a warning and told to refrain from piracy (they watch and test me occasionally).

...they knew everything about me. from my fake po box under dante benz, to my real address and ph, my paypal and ebay accts, my yahoo auctions (which i had never used) and even my social security number. the riaa is in bed with the feds, so they're no joke. ...that is unless you live outside america.

And how I share music? In person, you pay me a fee.

Over the internet, I don't share with random dudes.

If I like you or how you conduct your business, I'll share. Not that I have rare shit or nothing, but a lengthy inventory :thumb:
