So in Washington yesterday, while men and women continued to fight in Iraq and Afghanistan, the House Foreign Affairs Committee was weighing a 1,500 word resolution in honor of....

Why on earth, you ask, would the House Foreign Affairs Committee concern itself with such banal, moronic stuff? Apparently because Michael Jackson was a “global” humanitarian. I don't know about you, but when I think of foreign affairs, thoughts like that just don't pop into my mind. I think more about those soldiers I mentioned earlier. You know, the guys and girls facing down bullets, IEDS, roadside bombs, and plain old-fashioned suicide attacks? I like Michael Jackson a lot. He was one of the world's great entertainers, and I bet his family will miss him a great deal. None of this justifies the House of Representatives wasting everybody's time in this way. Come on. Can the 111th Congress, despite the presence of Senator Franken (gotta love it), be a place for serious business?
There's nothing wrong with honoring Michael Jackson. But can it please be limited to CNN, MSNBC, Fox News, Bloomberg News, CNBC, NBC, CBS, ABC, USA, and that ilk? There's no need whatsoever to involve the U.S. Congress.
