I just heard about this on the news last night. I know she is making her run for president but I think she is way off base here. First off her core group are liberals who are going to be upset with this. I think she is trying too hard to appeal to the right. Problem is the people on the right she has a chance of getting are moderate republicans like myself who for the most part are against flag burning laws. My personal believe has always been that the fact that you are free to burn the flag is what gives the flag it's true meaning. The day you can no longer burn it is the day where I no longer want to salute it.

WASHINGTON (AP) _ Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton is supporting new legislation to criminalize desecration of the United States flag _ though she still opposes a constitutional ban on flag attacks.

Clinton, D-N.Y., has agreed to co-sponsor a measure by Republican Sen. Bob Bennett of Utah, which has been written in hopes of surviving any constitutional challenge following a 2003 Supreme Court ruling on the subject.

Her support of Bennett's bill follows her position in Congress last summer, when a constitutional ban on flag-burning was debated. Clinton said then she didn't support a constitutional ban, but did support federal legislation making it a crime to desecrate the flag.

In her public statements, she has compared the act of flag-burning to burning a cross, which can be considered a violation of federal civil rights law.

The Bennett-sponsored measure outlaws a protester intimidating any person by burning the flag, lighting someone else's flag, or desecrating the flag on federal property.

I'm with you on this Flipp. I'm losing more and more faith in Hilary. I'm not saying I won't vote for her in 2008 (still too early and I don't know who else will be running yet), but I'm not liking her direction as of now.

why would you vote for her in the first place? she is a two faced crook just like her hubby. besides can you name anything good she has done for the state of ny? one piece of legistlation she has doctored? you should really read up on her. she's in the same boat with kennedy and kerry.

i'm glad she is behind this, it will just make less people want her for president. which in my opinion she has a very long shot of ever getting into office. unless the her show on abc really does a good job of brainwashing people.

i'm telling you all right now mccain will be presidnet in '08

such a biased (brainwashed? :p ) republican lol

i was going to go into a long discussion of my reasoning, but that would be outside the scope of this discussion.

anyway, all this anti-flag burning shit started because everyone's been wanking off to their american pride since 9/11. also, will the public do anything ot stop it? it's interesting to view the apathy of the american public towards the government after studying political philosophers who warned of this in polities with representative government. people need to start being more responsible as citizens before this state turns tyrannical.
