Thirty students were arrested Wednesday after a large brawl breaks out into several scuffles between girls from New Orleans and Houston during lunch at a southwest Houston high school, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Officers with the Houston Police Department and the Houston Independent School District brought the fight at Westbury High School , 11911 Chimney Rock Road, under control at about 12:40 p.m.

The brawl started inside the school's cafeteria at about 12:10 p.m. and evolved into several other fights involving students throughout the school.

HISD spokesman Terry Abbot said no weapons were involved in the fights, and that he suspects it was mostly fist fights.

The only injury reported as of 3 p.m. was one female student who suffered a laceration under her eye.

All students not involved in the fights were kept in classrooms to ensure their safety.

Houston police arrested 15 students from the Houston area and 15 students from the New Orleans area displaced by Hurricane Katrina.

All of the arrested students face charges of disruption of school activities.

Abbott told KPRC Local 2 that a female student from Houston is accused of assaulting two Houston police officers. She has been charged with a Class A misdemeanor.

Of the 15 Houston students arrested, 12 were boys and two were girls. Thirteen girls and two boys from New Orleans were arrested.

Twenty of the students were charged as juveniles while eight others were charged as adults. The classification for the remaining two has not been released.

Police released the juveniles to their parents. Students whose parents do not pick them up will be placed in the custody of Child Protective Services.

The students who are 17 and older and charged as adults were taken to the Southeast Jail.

HISD has taken in more than 5,000 students displaced by Katrina. Three hundred of those students attend Westbury.

Abbott said this is the 12th or 13th fight involving Katrina evacuees since they started attending HISD schools.

Last Thursday, the school held a forum with parents and students to discuss how the two groups could get along better.

So, what's going on here?
Should we blame the white man? :p *joke*

i doubt it had anything to do with that... i remember being in school and alot of times new people would get in to fights

thats the first thing that came to my mind. new people clash with the ones who have been there since the begining. when you put that many people together in a new place, the newbs are going to stick together since they know each other, one or two of them is bound to step on the wrong shoes or get picked on. some people can take it better than others. the ones that cant will resolve to fighting. and others will jump in just because they go their friends back.

sofi- it is the same school. that was alot of fucking cops in that clips

when i watched that clip all i got from it was, the fights are a result of the kids that came from new orleans. anyone that has been to any high school across america and payed attention to it, would know that new kids get picked on and fights happen. there just happens to be a large number of newbies at that school and others across the country.

But, you would think that with what Katrina did, people would become more humble and considerate of one another?

It's funny thought that when I was watching and interview with a Katrina evacue(spelling?) the student said that the Houston students are jelous of us and that he was jeolous of them. Like a love and hate relationship. But I can understand Houston and mostly Texas point of view in that overcrowding, less jobs, more crime reports. Probably overstaying their welcome even thought they really don't have anywhere to call home.

Spanish Girls Mayne DIZZAAAAAAM, shiit, once i was fucking this mexican chick, when she came.....yall dont even wanna know son, NAH SON, Y'ALL DONT WANNA FUCKING KNOW SON!!.

the thing with the cops being at the school just depends on the area. my high school had at least one on duty cop at all times. plus undercovers that posed as teens.

when i lived in vegas in the late 80's the high school that was down the road from were i lived had at least 6 at all times. they were just starting to put in metal detectors when i moved away. they would have at least one fight a day there. lots of gang activity went on at that school. i remember the first day of school for the district (when i was in 2nd grade) a kid at the high school was shot and killed, suposedly over his shoes.

Sad man. Everyone was sitting there complaining about how FEMA handled the situation and want to take them in and so forth, and now we want to blame them for traffic, crime, and whatever other problem there is, shit is sad.

Of course there will be fights though, your bringing in one big group from one area and tell them to go have milk and cookies with another, ok. Plus from the graffitti, it sounds like some Houston girls are gettin jealous, blah blah, man its high school shit.

That doesnt seem fair.
