Less than 2 weeks ago, a friend of mine was in a fatal car accident. To spare facts that I just don't even feel like talking about, he was ejected from his car and fell into a coma. He's been in this coma for about a week and a half. A couple days ago the doctors said he was barely above brain dead. Not long after that, he moved his fingers and tried to sit up. They said that's nothing to get your hopes up about because that's involuntary. Then the day after, he breathed on his own.

Now his parents (ADOPTED PARENTS) want to pull the plug. i don't know much about medical law (if there's such a thing), but is this seriously right? Someone tell me Im trippin. Is it really that easy?

AND WHAT THE FUCK IS A TRICHOTOMY

Yes, it's really that easy. But personally, in this situation, I think it's too soon for them to make a decision like that.

how can they pull the plug that soon? only a week and a half. cmon dont they have hopes of him coming back to life? if he breathed on his own for like a minute aint that a sign?

but thats some sad shit.

are you talking about about a tracheotomy? when they cut a hole in your neck to your windpipe so you can breathe?

a trach is when a hole is surgically made in the throat to allow respiration through the incision instead of the mouth or nose.

i'd advise you to google the terry schiavo v. florida case. it went to the supreme court and relates to your friend's circumstance. this is why everyone should have a living will.

Yup, yup. As long as the parents factored and thought about how your friend will live, they can do anything. BTW was this person wearing a seatbelt?

Tracheotomy. Thank you. That helps a bunch. I've got retarded friends that relay messages wrong.

If the patient's scans are showing little or complete brain damage then there is no medical hope what-so-ever for the patient. He will never regain consciousness and he is nothing more than an empty vessels that is breaking down nutrients and releasing waste. There should of been a DNR (Do Not Resuscitate) Order signed incase brain damage accord and now that they are considering it is truly the right thing in my opinion. There is no need to trap his soul in his body (now i'm going off medical opinion) because if he does have brain damage complete or little.... and if it's complete, he's as good as dead.. and if he has fundamental parts of his brain damaged and whatever chance he wakes up... he might not understand the world around him, he might lose his motor skills... he might not be able to comprehend words or express them... he might forget who he is, for good... he might have a change in personality... many problems can occur. It is really best, based on if he is brain dead... for automated life support to be removed, and let the patient's life span take its course
