Don't know which one of you guys knows a lot about cars but I fucked up the other day and drove for a considerable distance with my parking break on until the car started shaking and I realized that the light was on. I unreleased the parking break and then everything was ok afterwards but I'm still concerned about any damage that was done to my car and if the shaking was indicative of anything. Thanks a lot.

naw, u should be ok. The shaking was cause of the rear wheels not rollin', so its nothing. If everything was fine when you put it down then youre cool. Just test the ebrake to make sure its all good.

and check your tires, depending on how far you drove like that i'd check out the brake shoes also, i dont know how fast or far you drove but with the rear wheels locked due to the brake being on a substantial amount of heat built up, i would just get everything checked out to be sure

DUMBASS.

That aside, how far/long/fast did you go before noticing/releasing the parking brake? What do you drive? As a few people mentioned earlier, your rear brake pads/shoes and rear tires probably have increased wear on them, but they should still function just fine, but they will need to be replaced a bit sooner than normal.

^yeah. if its drum brakes, then it definitely isnt anything to worry about. them things take a beating and a half. disc brakes are a different story. they dont last as long as drum brakes.

Thanks everyone, yeah I was a little burnt out but yeah, still no excuse to fuck that up. I went quite a distance on the highway but drove no faster than 70km the entire way until the car started rattling and I noticed that the parking break light was on. Deez, it's a 96 Volvo. Super gangstuh, westside!

How did you not notice the parking brake being up while accelerating to highway speeds??? But anyway, if your parking brake was all the way up and you made it to 70 km (~44 mph), then I'm assuming that your rear brakes were probably almost worn out already. It's possible to drive around the neighborhood with the parking brake on, but if you can make it to those speeds with it on without noticing a deterioration in regular acceleration, then that's a bad sign. Get them checked.
