well I guess schools assume that if your black you wanna join there attempts to make them appear to be diverse (39.7 white, 36.3 Azn,10.6% Chicano/Latino,3.3 East Indian/Pakistani, 2.6% black, .7% Native American) my major is Communication/Psychology (so they tryig to get me to do this off what I marked as a race)

haha

(gotta love the black name)

but point is it seems colleges (espcially in libreal states) really want to try and promote a diveristy that really is kind of non-exsititant (I got accepted already). Oh yea they also sent this

tell me who is the 3 person from the left (up top) and yes I guess he really is that damn influntial with all these schools(good schools too) jockin him

As soon as I looked at that last flyer I noticed Pac haha but that is kinda funny them sendin you all that.. Are you gonna do the courses?
*remembers Black Studies 101 from How High* imagine the teacher was like that guy!
Puff its Pac from Gridloc'd the hospital scene.

That, my friend, is 2Pac Shakur...and i like helping creating threads (in a way)

edit/ps - im jealous

hahaha thanks y'all and yes Artsitic Girl you prove your name is correct for you have an eye. I was suprised to have received this though (been accpeted since Oct., got the formal one 3 weeks ago) but for them to send that to me when I expressed NO interest in of taking a major like that is funny (since they obviosuly saw my race was "marked" black). Was cool as hell to see Pac on that flyer, I am going rub that in the face of every suppsoed "hip-hop head" who calls Pac "overated". I might do the course will have to see what the schedule is like when I get there, but it's funny how they put people like Bob Marley and 2pac, almost seems they trying to appeal more to our generation (black, white whatever still the same idols). Like I said the fact they trying so hard to make it seem like a diverse campus (which I didnt care bout given the stats I listed are from theactaul pamphelt)

Most schools, if not all, really look for diversity. If you're Black and wish to apply to a really good school that's dominantly white, you have a better chance of getting accepted than a White student with better marks and sat scores, for example.

Now you don't want to start that type of talk now. That is only partly true. The person still will need to score pretty above average marks to get in (except maybe schools like Duke).

Well, you wouldn't get accepted with a 1.9 GPA and 800 on the SAT(Unless you're from Sudan), but my point still stands. It's nothing negative, though. You shouldn't get offended.

No man we cool you know this, I meant that there are still standards to be held and plus difffrent states(let alone countrys) have diffrent standards of what is well enough to egt into schools. But if we are to say advanatges then we have to look at JC where if you are on a TAA(transfer agreement) with the school (UCD,Santa Cruz etc) then all you have to do is pass the classes they list and graduate with only a 2.8gpa. That being said, SAT scores are irreelvant and thus those who go to a JC could be told that they have an unfair advatage since they have GUARNTEED ADMISSION over someone just coming out of high school with higher scores (when compared). Either way there are loop holes for everyone, not just due to race.I am on a TAA even though I have a 3.74GPA (and had a 3.2 in high school) just because it is guarnteed. I'd be a damn fool not to take every oppurnity they give me (race, money, school etc.)

"Our special emphasis is on the study of Black communities..."

lmao @ black being spelled with a capital B. I guess mister Adejunmobi wasn't paying much attention in English class.

Why Trinidad? But UCD has an international studies program which caught my eye...I'd have to say either Euproe or Down Unda (;)) first'
"African American and African Studies also offers two summer abroad courses, one in Trinidad, and the other in Ghana."

Cus I read that, Trinidad is a tight place, to live there would be tight.

It's always spelled with a capital in America.
Maybe it's different in Europe....

Well, yes. In proper english, "black" is not spelled with a capital letter as it only refers to a colour.

Does proper english have "Blacks" as a term, used to describe those of African descent?
