Nah it definitely isn't Alex the Kidd's music, but it really sounds like it's either from the original Zelda, Secret of Mana or one the original Final Fantasy (1-3).

My money is on Secret of Mana. when you start in the castle after you wake up.

And yes 2 years ago i thought MF Doom was trash. Now-a-days, I can't go a fortnight without bumping a handful of Doom's material in the whip or for inspiration.
