Last night i decided that within the next year i'm going to drop everything and go around the world and just fuck around as long as i can.
The plan is to save up about 10g's and go anywhere, work at whatever country i'm at and make only enough to just get by. After a year or 2 i'll come back and concentrate on everything then.
I'm thinking of going Europe first since i won't really be able to work there (except england maybe), then leaving there and going to the US and living there for a year or 2. And then finally asia where i can spend everything i have before i get back to aus.

The only backpacking i'll do is probably in europe and maybe asia. USA i'm thinking of actually renting out a place and working there at like a bar or something. My best mate is down for it as well, we were talking about it today.

Anyway my questions. i know a few people travelled around the world. How did you manage? how much spending money did u take? Did you work while you were travelling? how long did you go?

And to the people in the US, say i want to live in LA. The process of getting a house, is it hard?

But right now i gotta concentrate on saving up.
Anyway any thoughts and suggestions?

Sounds good. I always wanted to go travelling. But it's hard to give up the job I have, and I have a lot of financial commitments. A colleague of mine, who finished his apprenticeship at the same time as me went about 6 months ago. He is still out in Australia at the moment.

I then thought about emigrating. But again I lack bottle. Good luck to you.

edit - When you come to England. The cost of living especially around London is high. You'll need to work as $10K aus, won't go far.

it must be very interesting to travel around the world, although it doesn't sound as something that easy. I'm planing to do something like that in two years or three, I tihnk it's good to leave everything you're used to, take a risk and search for new opportunities, they will not come to you. I'm sorry I can't help you, I have no idea about the things you've asked, but anyways, I just wanted to say 'good luck' :thumb:

Yeah that's why i'm not thinking of staying in Europe for too long (especially in England). The only reason i want to go to england is because of the Salvador Dali Gallery in London.
My mate went to europe last year and he worked at some fish and chip shop to make ends meat in london for the three weeks he was there.

you don't wanna live in L.A. man...shit's expensive...find someplace outside of L.A. if you want to live in Cali
When i lived in LA years back we lived in a suburb called glendale (or something around that). If i recall correctly it was around west hollywood. But if i go again i'd probably leave that area and go on the beach side (Hermosa Beach area). Is it expensive?

i wish i could do that, but im only 17, still at school, and still mummy's little boy if you know what i mean :(

damn i'd love to do a trip like that all over the world. but then again i'm only 17 and i don't know if i'd have the courage to do that. all i'm saying is good luck man, you can do it.

Good luck, I'll be surprised if you can afford to live in London without doing some serious work for some serious money.

I'd also like to know about this. Anyone from Cali, what are the living costs like around the Los Angeles area?

yeah take this from me, Make 2 copies of your passport identification page. This will save your ass if your passport is lost or stolen. Leave one copy at home with friends or relatives. Carry the other with you in a separate place from your passport. I once lost my passport in Egypt and was later suspected of being an Israeli spy. it was quite an ordeal :(

Other than that, if i were to travel around the world id definitely take alot more than 10 grand, who knows what unwanted problems you might come across or you couldn't get a hold of a decent job, cost of living is higher than you expected, if i were you id do a little research on all the places im traveling to, just to get a better understanding of what I'm gettin myself into. But at the end of the day common sense is the best tool one could have

i've been wanting to be on the road like Jack Kerouac myself since i 14. before you go on you travels i would suggest reading the book "on the road" written by Jack Kerouac.
my dream is to get a good car and just drive. no particular place, direction, or destination in mind. just go were ever the road leads me.

as far as getting a house in L.A. rent would be killer and that is all you could do is rent. houses in compton have been going up lately. the shitty houses in compton can cost upwards of 300,000. you might shit a brick if someone told you what a house in L.A. would cost.

Come to MTL, I'll get you drunk as fuck and you'll be seeing me in your nightmares forever.

HARHARHAR.

My bro and his ex went around Europe a bit, he had 2-3K and managed, but he also knew some people in France and family in Croatia, so that helped.

I'd want to do that soon, actually I'm gonna do it soon, maybe in 2-3 years.
