Pull your dacks up - or face $50 fine

Failing to pull up your pants in Virginia could cost you a $US50 ($65) fine if legislators in the southern US state have their way.

The House chamber in Virginia's General Assembly has voted 60-34 in favour of the so-called "droopy drawers" Bill to penalise people who wear their pants too low, exposing their boxer shorts or G-strings in a "lewd or indecent manner".

"Underwear is called underwear for a reason," said Republican politician John Reid.

"Most of us would identify this as the coarsening of society."

The conservative state's Senate must now vote on the legislation, which some opponents denounced as a Bill targeting young black people imitating rap stars wearing loose pants.

Citizens' groups have warned that the proposed law could lead to racial discrimination.

The fashion is not limited to blacks nor the US, with the trend spreading around the world, resulting in both men and women indiscriminately wearing their pants vertiginously low.
