Family history books?

I get all my books from Amazon. If you are looking for something a bit more personal I would recommend your local Reference Library. They keep records of publications of local newspapers. Local history is a section you will also find in your local reference library.

Nah not Amazon and not a library. These are like customized books based on your last name, they talk about the origins of the name and the first people to use it back to old times, etc etc.

Do you mean purely (sur)name related information or an actual specific family history of *your* family?

I wouldn't know where to find the first one but the second you'll have to consult an expert that will dig it out for you. That's what my family did.

Well, I didn't find shit, of course.

My father's family had their history researched by a bureau that specialized in things like that. They did a thorough job, though, traced one ancestor back to the 1600's.

I'm sure there are similar bureaus everywhere, question is what do you really want to know?
